OK, so even though I told you that there were lots of alternative ways to get your PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii, some folks just can’t stand to be away from the action. After all, launch days are kinda like the Olympics — they only come around once every four years (or maybe more in the case of gaming). And if you’ve ever been a part a system launch, you know the magic. Fifty or sixty hardcore gamers standing outside a store talking ‘geek’ about what games they pre-ordered or what information they’ve heard about the system so far. Anytime you group people together with a similar passion of any kind, it’s a recipe for fun.
But as much fun as launch days bring, they can also bring about the worst in folks. I pray that everyone will be safe and that they’ll make this an experience to remember for good reasons. And with that said, this list was inspired. This is a download of my experience of over twenty-plus years of gaming and having been a part of six console launch days. No, I’ve never had to stand on line without knowing that my system was reserved. But I’ve spoken to enough people and accumulated enough knowledge to share. And with that said, here’s my list of guidelines to insure that your camp-out in front of Best Buy, Target, Circuit City or Toys R Us is safe and not in vain.
1. Bring friends. (The more, the better). It might be difficult to find folks who are this hardcore about gaming — so much so that they’ll take a day off of work and camp out in front of a store in November. But if you’re going to do it, this is the kind of thing that is best done among three or four committed friends. (Basically folks who won’t leave when it starts to get cold or who won’t back out at the last minute.) Why? Well, for starters, you’ll need someone to hold your place in line while you go to the bathroom (or there are alternatives….. calm down, I’m kidding.) But seriously, there are more than a few reasons why having three other gamers with you is a good idea. You’ll definitely want the security as you’re coming out of a store with a shiny new PlayStation box in a big yellow and blue see-through Best Buy bag. (And there are a bunch of other reasons to bring friends that I’ll mention later.) But just trust me on this one. You’ll want to huddle up your crew for this quest. Round up your posse and have them start planning around the date now.
2. Get to know the store manager. Now. – There’s nothing worse (and I mean nothing) than taking all of this time to camp out overnight, only to find out that the store isn’t getting any units. Or perhaps that they have only four (after all of the in-store corruption and holding systems for family members happens.) Your first job is to seek out the store manager. (Things like this are best done in person — not over the phone.) Go during your lunch hour or after work. Don’t be shy. Tell the attendant that you have an important question and that you need to speak to the store manager. I find it’s best to dress respectably (business casual is fine) and have a pen and notebook in front of you when you speak. And keep asking for folks until you get the top girl/guy whose answers satisfy you. You’ll want to know a few things:
a. Are there any promotions that you’ll be running for the PlayStation 3/Nintendo Wii launch day(s)?
b. Do you have any expectation of how many systems will be in your store on launch day? (Or if you’ll have any at all?)
c. Do you know if anyone has already expressed a desire to wait outside the store for a system?
d. Where is the best place to line up? (Nothing’s more embarrassing than waiting for days outside of a Best Buy to find out that the line is at another entrance. And yes, I’ve heard about this happening.)
e. “…and what is your name, sir/ma’am?” (This one is very important. If the manager senses that there’s a chance that their false information could result in affecting their job, they’ll take this opportunity to clarify anything they aren’t sure of. (Especially in light of all of the negative press Best Buy received last year during the Xbox 360 launch.) Once I even had a store manger take my information after I asked him a few questions about another tech product. But this was only after I made direct eye contact and asked him for his name.
If nothing else, this let’s the manager know what to expect on launch day. When he/she sees your face now, they’ll more than likely remember the discussion in November. This can only help you. Perhaps the manager will ask you for your name and have someone call you as more information is made available? Also, amidst a launch day crowd and lots of confusion, it could warrant you a bit of favor if that manager sees and recognizes you.
More importantly, talking to the manager lets you know what to expect from the store. If the guy looks like he doesn’t have a clue about “one of those new PlayStation-thingees”, then perhaps you’re shopping at the wrong store. (More on that later.) But your discussion with the store manager doesn’t stop there because when you get to the launch line in November — even if you’re not the first one to arrive — you’ll want to….
3. …talk to the store manager and let him/her know that you are standing in line! This is not such as big a deal if there are already folks on line, but I’ve heard about situations where people started lining up outside of an electronics chain on the left and somehow folks began to start lining up on the opposite side. The lines each slowly grew and nobody asked any questions until more and more people began to show up and confusion ensued from there. Avoid this altogether. If you’re first in line, just walk inside (and while you’re there, familarize yourself with where the bathroom is) and then ask for the manager. Let him/her know that you’ll be standing outside and for which system you’ll be waiting for. (Hopefully he/she recognizes your face if you followed my number 2 and the conversation will be brief.) Also, there might be some sort of bracelet or ticket that they’ll have to hand out. It’s a small but important step if you expect to play Resistance: Fall of Man on the weekend of November 17.
4. The early bird gets the worm. The PlayStation launch is on a Friday this year (November 17). If I were crazy enough to camp-out, I’d probably think about taking a few days off and starting to camp out no later than early Thursday morning (…or possibly as early as Wednesday….or maybe even earlier depending on how many hardcore folks there are in your town. (HEY! I see those juding eyes through the screen. Don’t get all judgemental on me. Folks lined up for a year in advance of the Star Wars prequels….and those were shite AND they didn’t get anything to take home for the experience.)
Anyhow, this is where having ‘talked to your store manager’ comes in handy. If you were friendly enough, more than likely he/she will have clued you in if anyone else has mentioned when they plan to start lining up.
If you’re insanely hardcore, you might even want to start a “watch” around the store… As you or your buddies pass by the store on your normal route in the days leading up to the launch, give them a shout out via mobile phone if you happen to see anyone lining up. And bring your stuff with you. If you see folks starting to form the line, perhaps you’d want to consider parking the car and hopping on the line yourself.
5. Be Social. If you’re going to have to stand among a bunch of strangers in a competitive situation, ease the tension by talking to folks. And I’m not talking about just the folks that you bring to the launch. If you bring buddies, each of you should start talking to other folks in the line. (This is usually a problem for me. I just like to zone out sometimes and read or….what else…game.) But it’s definitely to your advantage to talk to people. First off, talking can usually uncover information. “My cousin is inside working tonight and he said that they have only 12 PS3s”. Or perhaps one of you will get some other details that you can bring back to the group. Hey, you might make a new friend (that you’ll put on that mysterious online friends list that Sony has yet to discuss.) It just helps to ease the atmosphere. I still remember some of the folks that I met during the PS2 and the Dreamcast launch. But if you can’t be convinced to be nice just because sometimes it’s a good thing to be nice, know that you can stay more connected to the real-time information flowing around you if you talk to folks who are there for the same reason that you are.
6. When it comes to stores, discriminate. Last year a lot of folks were upset that I got a system without standing in some long line when many of them waited in the the rain — overnight — for an Xbox 360 — in vain. One female friend almost cornered me at work: “How is it fair that you can get a system, but I waited longer and didn’t get one?” And so I asked her, “Where did you wait?” Her reply? “Wal-Mart”. And therein lies the problem.
Even though a store might carry PlayStation or Nintendo products, it doesn’t necessarily say anything about their commitment to gaming. For some stores, gaming is a complete afterthought. Just some section in the back of the store, next to the television displays. And this isn’t standard to any one chain. One Wal-Mart might have a great gaming section while another location’s section is horrible. This is why you want to start interviewing managers now (see number two) to find out who has a launch day plan and who didn’t even know there was going to be a new PlayStation.
If you’re in the group of folks that didn’t (or can’t) find a a place to pre-order a system, you’re limited to camp out in front of stores that generally don’t run pre-order programs. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but the main stores that you’ll probably want check with (at least in the Northeastern section of the U.S.) are: Sears, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Toys R Us and (God forbid) P.C. Richard’s.
7. Bring a survival kit. (And get comfortable — you’re going be here for awhile.) – If you’re going to make any kind of serious sacrifice to get your new next generation system, you’ll want to bring all of the necessary essentials for survival. Those fold up plastic and fabric chairs are practically made for events like this. Also, November = winter. Dress for an outdoor trip. (Don’t forget, most of that time will be spent sitting in one place.) Bring food (including enough extras for the guy you met outside whose brother works inside Target. It could pay off.) Having some kind of makeshift pillow would be a good idea, but the plastic fold up chair is essential. After all, what good is it to get a new system yet be too stiff to sit down and enjoy it?
8. Know the rules of the line. – We’ve all been to an amusement park and watched the kids who cut the line. We’re upset, but we won’t make a big fuss over it. Hey, maybe you’ll wait a little longer, but the ride’s not going anywhere. These rules are multiplied by a factor of 5000 when you’ve waited for hours….maybe days…. and someone decides to let their friend hop on line in front of them just before the Circuit City doors open.
I don’t know all of the “Rules of the Queuing Line,” but someone let me peek at their guide book once. Two of the rules I do recall are as follows: If you followed number one in my list and you have a bunch of friends, it’s okay for one to step out of line to get a bite to eat for the group (be nice and ask if anyone else wants anything….ok, maybe not not everyone. Maybe just the dude behind your group.) However, only one from the group should leave and it shouldn’t be for any substantial period of time. Half an hour, tops. Same goes for bathroom visits. Basically the rule is this: for each person in that group standing in line expecting to buy a system, they should have waited with everyone else in the group. (Bonus: If you want to wait in shifts, but only because four of you are standing in line to buy one system, make a mini-announcement so that everyone can hear that you’re only buying one system. And this time around, even that might not calm folks.)
The second rule I peeked at is one for all of you “solo journey” folks. You people will certainly want to follow number five on the list because when you need to go to the bathroom, you must let the person behind you (and maybe even mention it to the lady in front of you) know that you need to make a short trip to the restroom. I’m sure they’ll appreciate the same courtesy when nature calls for them, as well. But don’t mention that you’re going to the bathroom, only to return three hours later. Folks who queued up behind you will start to unsheathe swords and draw arrows from quivers if you pull stunts like this.
Undoubtedly folks who didn’t read this post are going to bring a bunch of friends — but not having done their homework, they won’t know which stores are expecting what. And that will lead to five friends waiting in five different store lines for systems. It’s okay if they’re only buying one system between them. But if they all expect to come home with systems and four folks slip in line at about 8AM in front of a hundred angry dads, how do you think that’s going to turn out? (If I had to guess, it would probably involve news cameras and ambulances.)
I guarantee you — about 90% of all skirmishes that happen during this launch will be because of some sort of misunderstanding that falls under this area. Don’t be the guy on the news — know the rules of the line!
9. Be alert! – This goes hand-in-hand with, “bring friends” and “be social”. Especially if you’re not familiar with the area where you’re going to wait in, keep a heightened awareness about you. (Kinda like you do when you’re sitting at the airport gate before your flight.) Just like the lady tells you as the flight is preparing for takeoff, look around while you’re on line and plan your route back to the car once you get your system. (And please….. for the love of all that’s good and holy…. don’t take the bus home. You just spent $600 on a system. Find $10 and buy a cab ride home. Please.) Bottom line is this — the goal is to slide that PS3 into the space in your home entertainment system. Giddily smiling as you walk back to the car, happy that you’re carrying the next generation in gaming under your arm might result in you getting “got”.
10. Bring a covering. – Here’s one that most folks don’t consider. Rather than walking out of Best Buy as a target with a big yellow and blue bag, why not bring something to make your $600 less conspicuous? Most people who have considered this go with the ever popular “black garbage bag”, but sometimes those can be just as conspicuous. My suggestion – get a big Macy’s shopping bag or a large shopping bag from any other clothing store. (A pink Conway bag is your road to success). Also, remember to put a few shirts inside of the bag so that you can drape them over the box. Again, it sounds silly, but the whole point of gaming is fun and you want to ensure that you get home safely so that you can enjoy your system. And that brings me to my next point…..
11. If you sense danger, WAIT! – If you’re in the rare situation where you feel that you’re not safe, go back to the store. It’s the mall’s responsibility to make sure that you have a safe environment in which to shop. At Best Buy or Circuit City, talk to those annoying guys that bug the hell out of you for your receipt when you’re trying to leave the store. Tell them that you don’t feel safe and you think some security is needed outside of the store. Then hopefully the “mall cops” will deter any theft and you can go home safely. Thankfully I’m a big guy and I haven’t had to do this before. But it’s not about just you. Perhaps there’s some Mom who doesn’t see the danger that you see. Why risk the trip just because you’re in a hurry to get home and play? You’re risk losing your money and the system that you waited on for hours. If you sense danger, swallow your pride, go back to the store and make sure that there’s enough security there for everyone to get home safely.
I’d rather wait inside the store — even for an hour or more until the situation is safe — than to have the system in hand, only hours from glory and rush out into danger, not only putting the system in jeopardy, but your life as well. Patience, Young Skywalker.
12. If you wait in line a day or more in advance of launch, agree to sleep in shifts. – This might sound rather silly, but if get your place in line on Wednesday (November 15), discuss with your buddies a plan for sleeping. I know it sounds as if I’m overcomplicating the experience as if folks were in an episode of ‘Lost’, but whaddya want?!! I knew a guy who was so hardcore to get a system that he stayed up for the two days that he was on line (Xbox 360) and as it got closer to the 9am hour, sleep began to overtake his body. He eventually got his system, but think of the risk he was putting himself in…. (especially considering number ten on the list) walking out of a store needing desperately to rest with a $700 bag in your hand.
Now, if you’re with a group, this one is easy. (Usually there’s a guy who can operate on little to no sleep.) However, if you’re alone, this will be a challenge (to say the least). But as you’re being social (see five), at least discuss it with the folks you are standing around. (My strong advice is that if these aren’t folks that you know and you need to sleep a few hours before the actual launch date, “don’t trust em!” You might wake up in a lawn chair by yourself in front of Circuit City at 11:30am with a damn PS3 bracelet still on your arm — that is, if they didn’t cut that from your wrist! And no, I didn’t hear about this actually happening, but it does sound pretty funny.)
13. Enjoy yourself! – Hey, this is a game system launch — bring games! Bring a DS or a PSP and see how many folks show up on the network. Again, you might make some new friends that you can look for later on that day on the PS3’s mysterious online friend finding system. The point is, as much as this is a sacrifice, it’s a time to celebrate your passion. I mean, let’s not get too crazy….. don’t dress in cosplay or anything, but bring a portable system and a few games. (And don’t get so excited about the new system that you lose or forget your $199 PlayStation Portable. Yet another good reason to have a bunch of friends — someone can guard the knapsacks of gaming goodies.)
My advice is to take a few mobile phone movies. This experience can be something you look back on and laugh about. (That is, provided you actually get a system.) But forsaking all other rules…. above all else….please…..
14. Please, Please, Please — BE SAFE!! – I would love to turn on the news on the 17th at 6pm and see only corny news stories about “PlayStation Mania” where they stick a camera in front of some little kiddies who just stare and drool on the mic. But sadly, I suspect that Friday November 17 is going to be one crazy day. Remember — above all else, this console is not worth your life. If faced with the unfortunate situation of having it stolen, just walk away thanking God that you lived to talk about it. No system is worth your life or your health. It’s unfortunate that the economic situation is such that hard working folks can’t all afford to enjoy the fun, but that’s just the sad state of affairs that we live in. Best thing you can do is get a system and share the experience at home with a friend who might not have been able to afford one. But please, please….just be safe.

Target stores have been VERY picky about their street dates in the last year so don’t expect much surprise from them. At least in metro areas.. they take this stuff very serious. So serious that even I a manger have to wait in line.

About lining up more than 24 hrs in advance: I asked at the local Best Buy and they said people would be allowed to line up in advance starting the night before. Any earlier than that (the day before in the morning, or several days before) would be considered loitering and they said they DEFINITELY WOULD call the cops on anyone doing that.
So if you are considering lining up > 24 hrs in advance, be sure to find out BEFORE hand not only with the store manager, but with the landlord of the actual property that the store is on. (After all, someone owns the property the store is built on, and its not Best Buy, they just rent it from them)

The Wii is launching on Sunday, November 19th. I swear video game information is the most ignorantly relayed information on the face of the earth. I hear Zelda is coming out for XBox!
It might be good depending on where you are, BUT that’s what everyone is thinking, so despite i have 2 pre-orders (gamestop and toys ‘r us) (my bro and my dad will be waiting for those), i’m camping out HARDCORE from thursday morning after work (11am), and staying there til the wii is out. me and my friends took off work, and we don’t have class thursday or friday so we’re golden.
When i stayed in line to pre-order the wii, my friends and i hooked up a gamecube and small tv up to a few car batteries connected together in parallel. Six hours of gaming to pass the time! Of course then we just traded in the gamecube towards the wii, so that is gone.

i remember camping for the Game Cube at a Target, in Hurst, Texas, and getting there at about 6pm the Saturday Night before it opened in the morning at 9 or so. I was #14 in line, getting there 15 hours early. By the time the store opened. 80 people were in line and they only had 54 systems. I got one with Luigi’s Mansion and Super Monkey Ball and was happy. I brought my Game Boy Advance and played through Pokemon Gold the whole way through in about 11-12 hours. Then I played Super Mario Advance all the way through and it opened about 20 minutes after I beat it. But that is what I did to pass the time. The people in line were mainly parents with their kids, many spoiled kids who I felt like backhanding. I really didn’t talk to them much but I did. I didn’t have to go to the bathroom once nor did I get tired. It wasn’t too bad, although it was raining most of the time at about 60 degrees.

Ahh..Chicago. 😀 GameStop for me. I’ll be *maybe* camping out at the one by Fullerton in the plaza there. Maybe. ’cause I’ve already got mine reserved and I’m not sure my mom would want me to camp out n.n
Although I’m not buying a PlayStation 3 or a Wii I plan on being in line @ my local gamestop where I’ll buy a couple of 360 games instead. I just want to be part of the event for the PS3 launch and to make some new friends.
Doing a little location research is key. In VT, the lines at the Burlington malls were ridiculous for the PS3 and Wii pre-orders, but if you were to drive 12 miles outside of town, nobody bothered to show up at the more remote EBgames/Gamestop stores. Have a backup plan for the 17th/19th and be prepared to jump in a car if the line is taxed at busier locations.
One thing that I’ve seen done, and I do myself, is bring a medium size whiteboard. As people get there to join the line they write their name down on the whiteboard, which stays with someone near the front of the line for everyone to see. This prevents cutting, and as everyone has written their names on it, everyone trusts it. Only once did this not work, because the store manager went on a power trip and declared the white board to be invalid or some crap.

I’m actually waiting at a north burb store. I figure the closer I get to the city the harder it’ll be to get it. I’ll at at the Lake Zurich store.
Ok, so here is my deal. I am a student at Boston College and am trying to get a PS3 on launch day. I have yet to do research, but probably will end up at Best Buy (Thats where I got the 360 on launch and feel that they tend to get the most systems.) I end classes at 4 on Wednesday, and am planning on skipping classes Thursday, which is not a problem. And I start classes on Friday at 11, so again, no big deal. Right now, I am planning on arriving around 6am on Thursday morning, which would mean that I would be waiting 26 hours. I don’t have to be number one in line, just to ensure that I will walk out of BB with a PS3. So do you think that I should get to Best Buy at 6am on Thursday, or earlier? Part of me says earlier b/c what is 3 more hours gonna do in the big picture. I do not want to camp out for 2 nights, but if I HAVE TO, then I guess I can. What do you guys think?
Pat, it’s kinda like I said…. we could tell you to wait as soon as you get done on Wednesday, but who knows what everyone else has planned in your town. One of my suggestions was “talk to the manager”. I think you should do that. Find out what the store’s plan is. Maybe they won’t even let you stand on Wednesday.
Also, I kinda think in the case of the PS3 that anything beyond number 5 on line is no guarantee. I’ve spoken to a few store managers who have indicated that they expect “10 pieces”. One guy told me, “25 pieces tops – and some of our employees are entitled to a few units”. Keep in mind, this is in New York. Things may be different in Boston, but I’d figure not too different.
Aside from checking with the store managers, I’d remember the image of the thirteenth guy on the Target line for the 360 launch. They had 12 units. The pain in his face of seeing the guy DIRECTLY in front of him walking out the store with a box is one that I won’t forget.

i live in san francisco where there is a playstation store and a sony store in the same building. do you think that because these stores are going to receive more PS3’s than most other stores that it would be okay to show up at around 1:00 AM friday morning.
I just got back from Toys R Us about 20 minutes ago with my preorder receipt. Got there at 6:00pm on Saturday night, about 14 hours in the cold Boston weather, but I’ll have a PS3 on launch! woo hoo… but the reason im posting again is that I just wanted to thank the writer(s) of this guide. We performed several of the tips and the process was so much smoother. Long ass wait can never be totally blocked out, but the night was much better than my 360 launch campout. Yet, I think I still am going to try to campout on launch day too, and see about getting one for my nephew. I was thinking early Thursday morning, around 6-7am or so? What do you guys think?

Do any of you guys know how many Wii’s these stores are gonna get? I figure I’ve got a lot better shot at getting a Wii than a PS3. I’m probably gonna wait until Saturday, the 18th to camp-out – I like my own bed for sleeping. Maybe that loitering rule will come into play at a lot of these stores.
great guide andalthough it sounds like camping out on launch day would be an awesome experience, i’m just happy that i already have my Wii preordered from gamestop. i’ll have been playing it for about eight hours before the other stores even open up (midnight launch party) OH YEAH!
The main tip I’m taking advantage from the PS3 camp out guide is to see when other people are gonna line up for the PS3. I say for the PS3 you go and check starting Wednesday the 15th the store for which you are gonna camp out at every 3-4 hours to see if there is anyone lining up outside. If you see people lining up, you should line up yourself no more than 2 hours later because other people will be doing the same thing when they see people outside. And does anyone know if stores will open at midnight Nov. 17 on Friday for selling PS3s or open at there regular Friday hours? What did they do for the 360?
I’m planning on using some of these techniques. I hope the walmart in my town gets wiis. for the 360 launch alot of people from the big city nearby came to my town so its possible for the wii. I’m planning on the 18th at noon to start my campin. Nice guide.

well im in northern japan. Im camping out (well waiting in my car until i see people starting to line up) the night before it goes on sale. I think ill be safe being that im in northern japan (misawa, 3 hrs north of tokyo by bullet train) im hoping there wont be HUGE lines though. I can buy a DS with no prob while i continue to hear how they are sold out/difficult to find in tokyo. Ive had my ps3 on reserve since september, im not even sure if it was an official preorder since the lady at the counter didnt know if they were getting the 20 or 60 gig. but they gave me a call shortly after the TGS closed and asked me which model i wanted. only 12 more days until the 11th 😀
Is there any lists yet like the ones last year that tell how many systems each Best Buy is going to be receiving? I remember last year for the 360 launch, you could see how many each Best Buy was was going to have. I remember some were 20 and others had 60 to 70. That would kind of help out.

Why is everybody gonna wait until they see other people lining up. If yo uare waiting in the parking lot at your store just go and be the first one in line.

Do any of you think hat Sam’s Club will have systems? That seems like an excellent place to go since yo have to be a member to even shop there, and most people will go to Fry’s or Best Buy or Circuit City.

This guide was just what I was looking for. My boyfriend works at Bestbuy, and I thought I’d share with you all that as of today, most of the stores haven’t recieved an estimate of the number of consoles they’ll have. One perk for us in Gainesville, Fl is that employees aren’t allowed to buy the systems.
Make sure you follow the tip about asking when to line up! Police will be shooing people out of Butler Plaza (Bestbuy’s location) all night because of local laws against sleeping in public places, which throws out all ideas of lining up early.
anybody campin out in Reno, NV im not from there but i live here now. i was livin in El Paso, TX and at last year’s 360 launch i went to every walmart at 3pm and they had long lines. So i decided to go to Target and thay had 20 units. luckily i was the 14th person, the bad part was they had half & half so i only got a core system, but what pissed me off was they only had three hard drives. I had to drive to best buy to get one. it was all worth it though!!! ill be at wal-mart November 16th, 2006 at 6am!!!!

What a great guide. However, I live in good ol’ South Carolina. There were Eb’s down here where you could waltz on in four hours after they opened on October 10th and still have plenty of time to pre-order a system. When the 360 came out, as long as you were at a BestBuy or Target within the first few days of the release, you were golden. When the Cube came out I showed up at Circuit City a week after opening and they had plenty. With all the hype surrounding the PS3 and current situation on eBay, I may have to line up 4-6 hours beforehand. Must of the people buying the PS3 are not going to be gamers down here in SC…but ppl lookin to make a quick buck to pay their gas bill. I have even heard about ppl coming down here just because we are notorious for never having lines for stuff like that. Hell, even the day after Thanksgiving, the record for someone lining up is only seven hours at a BestBuy.
Hey, I’m planning on camping out with my cousin for a wii on Nov. 19th. I live in southern North Carolina. Do any of you think that I should wait in line at a Wal-Mart or Circuit City, etc…?
My aunt waited in line last year for a xbox 360 at my local wal-mart (only 5-10 min. from my house) and she only had to wait in line from 6 pm to 10 pm! Maybe I won’t have to wait for a long time?! IDK…what do you all think?
I live in jackson Ms i waited outside in dec for the 2nd lauch of the 360. Bestbuy had 40 i was number 37 and i got there @ 8pm the night before. I gotta have a ps3 and am willing to wait in line starting early thursday 5am. Ive called a couple of walmarts but i dont think each store (walmart) will get more than 4-6 bestbuy on the other hand maybe 10-25 depending on location. 400,000 units diveded by 50 states 8,000 ps3 per state. thanks to the writer of this guide. Well i am in Framingham,MA and I plan on staying out for this was planning on lining up around Thursday afternoon but now i am thinking thursday morning might be the better of the two. Also i know around me there is a Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart and a Comp USA(which is where i will most likely be) i need to make sure i can skip work and evening classes on thursday evening. I was wondering if i talk to the people in line, do you think i would be able to run to class for about 2hrs and still save my place in line?
Agros go ahead and plan to miss your class. Theres pretty much no way people are going to let you skip out for 2 hours plus that will probely be against the line rules….I’m skipping out on work that thursday as well
i live in Katy, texas. i live 2 blocks from a target.. i plan to start drivebys around noon on sat (for the wii)and as soon as i see one person i will have everyhing in the back of my car and i will rush for a spot… if there is no one lining up untill bout 9 i will start the line. but i doubt that will be the case.
did i mention i work at that target! but we get no bennifits! only 10% off everything… but no special treatment.
one more thing….. if you wanna be able to play your ps3 in HD be prepared to fork up another $150 because the cable is not packed with either priced systems. and yes i talked to the sony rep… its true…
You can pick up an HDMI cable for 20.00 on amazon.com. You do not need the PS3 specific cable, it is made by monster, and all of their stuff is overpriced.
i am 15 years old an i am going to camp outside of bestbuy thursday at (11:30) its my first system so will the people say anyhting to me like( your to young or something) an i am camping by myslef so can you please give me so advice
Good for you, Alec. I do worry about you since you’re 15 and holding $650 in your pocket. This is definitely the time to convince a parent or at the very least an older uncle or aunt to come with you. I’d even feel more comfortable if it was you and at least two other 15 year olds. Remember Alec — the goal is to come home and play Resistance. There are some sick folks in this world who will be clued in to the PS3 mania around the 13th or so….and they’ll be plotting. Just be safe, man. I am passionate about gaming too (and truthfully if I was 15 and nobody would stand with me, I’d probably stand on my own.) But just promise me that you’re not paying in cash. Sleeping through the night with $600 bucks in your pocket is NOT a good idea.

devron thank you so much for making this guide it has been very helpfull.. i have put together an emergency kit in the back of my car for the day… including a switch blade(legal size) and a first aid kit i know that sounds extream but so is camping out to get a system and your saftey

Nice guide man.. My friends and I plan on getting a total of 6 ps3.. 3 of them will be mine. i plan on selling 2 on eBay. my goal is to make $5000. we will be getting in line Wed. around 5pm. Im just worried about security. I heard way too many horror sorries for the 360 launch and for that reason we will have a .45 in the car just in case.
16 year old going for a Nintendo Wii here…. Roanoke is a little town so when I sent my family member to get me a pre-order 2 hours before Game Stop opened, I was shocked to hear people were there since 1 am. I tried Toys R Us got there 4 hours before the store opened still didn’t get it, the only people that got a pre-order where some guys that got there at 12 noon the day before…
Yea I was thinking 1 am at Best Buy, but tomorrow I’m going to talk to the manager, and attempt to be there 12 noon in the 18th.
Even got a friend to camp with me, 16 year old, only female at Toys R Us…. doesn’t seem too safe to be there 24 hours, hopefully walking away with a new system.

I would bring along a friend if you could find one to hang out with you. Are you doing it for a PS3 or Wii? If for a PS3, I’m surprised your parents would let you do that though. Mine would never let me do anything like that on a school night. But yeah, try to get someone to come along with you or try to make a friend in the line so you can watch each others back.
Do any of you guys know if I can bring a small camping tent when I camp out overnight outside bestbuy or will they make me remove it?
I went to a wal-mart (the only wal-mart) in Susanville, California, and they said they are gettin 20 PS3’s. 10 20gig and 10 60 gig, the only thing that sucks about this wal-mart is that its not open 24/7. the good thing is it. only 20 min. away from me and i get off at 8am so ill be there by 830am Nov. 16th with a fold out chair, ds, and lots of food.
I still havn’t spoken to the store managers in my area, but i do plan on camping out all of thursday and having a friend stand in line for me. I was thinking about camping out Thursday morning or afternoon. I will be missing work and class all day and hopefully my Bestbuy or something has a Midnight Lunch. But make sure you read the info above, talk to the managers and make sure they have enough units just to be sure that they have enough PS3s, and to make sure they don’t have a problem with campers. Ok guys Camp ON!!!! and be sure to bring entertainments and you have friends come by and visit you with goodies. Also be sure to Establish a line Rule.

Apparently they held a meeting about the PS3 but not the Wii (funny considering the Wii is more popular in my area).
* No promotions.
* No idea about number of systems.
* They have people that have asked about lining up.
So basicly I know nothing more than I did before… I think i’m going to ask the people in line for the PS3 either early the 17th, or some time on the 16th to see when the 1st people lined up, and I will go off that.
I’m worried noon the 18th will be too early, but I don’t want to be too late either…

Anyways, I work at a Best Buy, and we have people telling us they plan on camping out as early as four days before the PS3 launch. Yikes!
Just a hint: we CANNOT say how many units we will get or have when customers ask. But I feel bad for anyone waiting in the back half of the line, I’ll say that much.
And as for what Best Buy allows out in front, I think it might vary store to store. Our store is going to be pretty accomodating. People will need tents up here in Oregon!
And since I will be working on the launce days, I can’t buy a PS3 or Wii (planned on waiting anyways), so I hate all you people who plan on selling yours on ebay.

I’ve never had to camp out for a system (although I did get the a Best Buy about 20 minutes before they opened for my PSP, but that doesn’t really count as camping out). I got my DS and Gamecube the morning they came out, and I bought a PS2 the evening it came out. I just strolled into a Toys R Us and got one. It was that simple 🙂

Re: HD cables, you do NOT need an HDMI cable to play games in HD on the PS3. If your TV supports component video cables, those will work just fine as well. The only reason to NEED HDMI cables on a PS3 is for BluRay movies (not games) that specifically require the HDCP features of an HDMI connection. Those movies will be downgraded to 540p in that situation. That said, MOST movie companies are not using this feature on their BluRay discs, so its a moot point.
anyone else find it interesting how Circuit City USA will only be getting 600 units for sale on launch day?? (well 725 if u count the ones they will be raffeling off) with that ive given up on circuit city for my ps3. i plan on hittin up either my local gamestop (if they say they might have extra units on top of preorders) or my best buy store 15 mins away

Hmmm I am guessing salem oregon then. and they are estimateing 4 days camping? Eeeep and I thought I was crazy thinking that I was going to be close to the front with about 40hr camp. And hmm 4 day camping for the Wii? that will run into the people for the PS3, or was that estimted times for the ps3?
Now to just get over to my bestbuy talk to a manager and see what restrictions they are going to have.

I also recommend this, we did this waiting in line for preorders for both ps3 and the wii, if your the first person in line or thers a bunch of people coming and going, suggest making a list of names of who was here and who is getting there, just add on the names, we did this and the manager greatly appreciated how orderly we were. It pays to be friendly too, we had a guy wait in a car all night and never come out to join the line, and so it was pretty much a unanimous vote that we were gonna tell the manager he didnt wait in line and so did not deserve a preorder, the manager of course agreed.
And yes, check with a manager, we checked like two days ahead of time and he was like “Well I know I’m not supposed to tell anyone but we are only getting 4 ps3’s and 10 wii’s.” This was t toy’s r us (yes they did preorders this time around).
For extra added fun tell the manager you’re camping out and was thinking about bringing a tv, and ask if it was possible to plug it into an outlet outside. My group brought two tvs, one with a GC and another with a PS2, we watch gaming movies like super mario and the wizard all night while playing super smash, needless to say everyone else in line loved us for bringing entertainment.
I’m planning on camping either Toys R’ Us or Target which are very close to my home for the Wii. Will be my first camp out for a release, so I’m hoping it won’t be that bad. Most likely be camping alone since roomates have work and don’t really know anyone from the area. 4 days?? That seems a bit over the top. I’m in Corvallis and am hoping I don’t need to be out there any earlier than Thursday AM sometime (I’ll be driving by every couple hours to see when the line starts forming and take it from there).

Haha..I work at best buy also and can tell you. You can prolly count how many ps3’s each best buy will be getting on one hand…just a hint. Think 2 million units, now that sony messed up, divided by how many stores/people. But the Wii..you shouldnt have to wait that far in advance.
I heard from a guy that says hes a higher up in gamestop, like a district manager or something that there are only gonna be about 250,000 ps3 shipped to the US, that sony changed it about a week ago. AKA expect most people who preordered to still not get one on launch and that stores will carry about 5 tops.
And wii is almost as bad, more units, but from what i can tell, the demand far exceeds that of the ps3. I’m hearing from people for both the ps3 and wii that they are camping out anywhere from 3-4 days, I also heard from one guy that he plans to start on Monday of that week, 5 days… ouch.
I am going to Circuit City on the day before launch for a Wii around 5:00 pm. If it doesn’t work out there I’ll go to walmart and check to see if they have any left. If I don’t strike it there I’m gonna rush straight to Target and wait in line there till 8:00 am when they start. If I don’t get one in anyone of those places, I guess I’ll just have to wait. By the way, I’m gonna be in Tulsa,Oklahoma for all of this. Anybody else?

Does anyone know what stores are carrying the most units? Im trying im gunna pay people around $180 for waiting in line. Dont blame me for doing it, its economics. Im hopin to get around 50 campers and bums and spread them out with my buddies. its gunna look funny and people are gunna get heated but i dont care, i aint scared of noone. Think you could camp out for the wii right after you buy the ps3?
I’m camping out in good ol’ Seattle with a buddy of mine. I have it on good authority that Circuit City will be implementing the Voucher system again this time around and that each store will have under 10 units, under 5 for smaller volume stores. And there are even a few that aren’t getting any, but they can’t tell people they aren’t getting them. How much would that suck?! Waiting in line to find out you never had a chance. My plan is to camp out all-day Thursday. One benefit is that I live a block from the Best Buy and my wireless works there, so I got my lappy up and running. For anyone in the Northgate area, I’m also bringing entertainment, such as a TV and a handful of good movies. I plan to get a PS3, so I’ll be checking everytime I go home and getting in line when it forms. So that could be as early as Tuesday or Wednesday I guess. bah! The things we do for video games. I live in Henry County Georgia and my mom works at walmart and is a merchandise supervisor, well for now at least but we wont go into that. She had to go to an electronics meeting about the releases days and stuff and i heard that a lot of the stores have gotten good ideas based off of last years turnout. For instance i think that one store is getting 14 Wiis and they are just going to set up 14 chairs in the layaway section and as soon as they are filled, everyone not in a chair leaves. The end. And also with walmart, it is against the rules for an employee to reserve one, if they are off that day they can wait in line but if they are stuck working they cant get one and no employee discounts either. Im planning on getting a Wii and considering this will be my first ever waiting on a game, im taking advice from my brother who worked at walmart at release last year. They started to line up at noon the day before and released at midnight, so ill either go to work with my mom and be first in line or go at 11. Good luck to everyone next week!
I am camping out for both a PS3 and a Wii. I’d like to go to a place with a midnight launch but I think those will be really busy. I’ll probably just camp out starting at around 8pm at either Target or circuit city.
Excelent Piece on information, I have been applying it to my wait for ps3 for about a month now and this was all before i read the blog. I have been talking to the department manager in our town for our WalMart for a month and have been getting some good info. I even talked to the Inventory Company personel about the ps3 launch and got a possible number of about 3-5 units for our store. I’m psyched about the release of it and im ready, survival kit packed and ready to go. I was the first in our town to have the ps2 when it came out and i stayed up all night from about 9pm on and got 1 of 14. This year is going to be a little different. Allowed to stay in the store of our NEW 24hr WalMart near the electronic register from about early afternoon until they release there at 12am thursday morn. At 10pm she intends on giving out tickets of how many ps3’s they got and we cant leave the store until they release at 12am. If we do it becomes null-and-void.
So i say to you all out there, have fun camping, good luck grabbing and hope all (maybe not all) come out with what they hope to expect.

wow… i don’t appear to be the only one with amping ideas, and research appears to be a big thing. yeah, actually, i just read this guiode today, but i had already done so,me of the things, talking to guys at the store. however, i hadnt thot of actually going to the manager, i fig’d thatd be a bit overdone… however, i’m gonna go tomorrow. believe me, it’s never to early to wait guys. myself, i’ll be goin to sit outside my local bestbuy possibly friday the 17 for the wii on sunday. i may hold til early sat morning if the lines dont turn out as bad as i hope. i have one question; does anyone know for CERTAIN (no guesses or lies), will they release the two consoles (at least the Wii anyway) at midnight or when the stores open? i heard that the big N has the say on that, but i was wondering if anyone knew the actual details. it would just make the waiting easier i guess if it was midnight saturday and not the next day sunday. thanks for the guide tho!
Some stores WILL have a midnight opening. That is decided store to store, company to company. I think your best bet is to ask the store employees of where ever it is you plan to buy. I know only about five or so BBY’s will be having midnight openings, and like three of those are in the LA area.
Just as apoint of interest:
If I camp out, I could either do it at an EB inside the mall, or an independent game store, on its own on a street. The indie store isn’t taking pre-orders since the Xbox 360 scandal, so camping in advance is a must. Which place generally has less incidents on these dates?
Josh – Generally I would say that a mall attracts far more stares. When I got my PS2 at a mall, there was far less press and I remember eyes staring with evil intent. However, this is going to be a special breed of crazy on the 17th. I don’t think there’s any way of knowing what you’ll be walking into that day. If you get to the store extra early, park close to the store.
Best piece of advice I can offer is what I said in the post. Bring concealing bags (shopping bags and some clothes to cover the box) and if you can convince some friends to join you (even if it’s AFTER you’ve secured your PS3) just call them after you have the system, wait inside the mall and walk out together. (These sound like the tactics of a wimp or a punk, but you’ll be a punk who’s home playing with the PS3 as opposed to sitting in a police station chair trying to have the sketch artist draw the hooligan that swiped your system.
Hey – lots of people are asking about whether anybody knows which stores will have the most units. At this point, even the gaming press (Kotaku, 1up.com, joystiq.com and many others) don’t have a solid idea of how the units will be allocated. Hell, they don’t even know how many units Sony has produced this far or if they’ll hit their projections of 400K for North America. Stay tuned to this site and the others mentioned for more info in the coming days. But one piece of advice that I’ll offer for certain — FORMULATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STORE MANAGERS. (Yelling was necessary.) It’s critical that you start asking the store questions.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend time in a Target that actually had a PS3 kiosk. (I was a bit underwhelmed — I’ll write about that today.) But the manager (very nice lady) said that all she knows is that they’ll have SOME units. She said at this point she hasn’t been told if it’s 5 or 50. She had no idea — and this wasn’t just some twerp in a red jacket. This was THE big cheese in the store. She didn’t even have on any identifying gear and all of the store workers tried to look busier when she came around.
Last thing — I’m sure as we get closer to the launch, the talented folks out there will create charts to show some relationship between stores and allocated number of PS3s. I remember hearing about these charts last year when the 360 launched. If one does launch, I’ll post something about it.
Bottom line — keep watching the information flow. More info is coming out every day over the next NINE days! 🙂

first off: i don’t care to ‘be laid’ as you so put it. i’m not a freak. second, i just know that there’ll be a run on any particular system, and i’d liek to be prepared to get one. besides, i think your comment really wasnt needed, especially in this thread. ask a lot of these guys and i bet they have girlfriends (or boyfriends, depending on who they are) and as for myself; i’m waiting for marraige to ‘be laid’. thanks for the thought tho!
Good for you, Mewhunter. You know, I wasn’t really going to respond, but I’m glad you did. The truth is that folks like that are frustrated because nine times out of ten, they’re working for folks like us. 🙂 It’s their way of getting back at the tech enthusiast that holds their future in the palm of their hand.

But if you camp out for a gaming system — which you’ll have LONG after the concert is a distant memory — AND which might net you a cool $2000+ if you sell it…..well, now we’re freaks who don’t get women. Eh, I figure it’s better to wait in the cold to definitely get one then to wait for a few months to get it. I got to play with it at an EB Games near me. The control system is extremely sensitive and hard to use at the beginning, but within 5 minutes you start to pick it up and it’s really fun. A lot easier then using a standard controller too.
That’s hardcore Enig… best of luck to u in getting the systems… though I must say…Zelda looks sooo sick…. I haven’t tried out the numchuck yet…

i called the stores here locally. Gamestop says it won’t have any extra after filling pre-orders. Best Buy says we can start a line any time but they have no idea how many they’re getting. Wal-Mart says they’re getting 20-30 calls a day asking about ps3 while Circuit City says they’ve only gotten about 5 calls total. Target was pretty clueless. This all in central california.

BB isn’t telling what amount they have (the employees can’t say or they’re fired… they told me that last year with the 360 too, stupid idle threat). They aren’t saying anything they can get away with getting to not say basically.

I’m going with the safest, best lit location. For some opening time may be a factor. My best buy said they open at 10am while wal-mart said 7am and the rest said 8am.

This is the only site I know of. You want to use gas stations, Grocery Stores, and other such places, but try to buy something from them each time (small item) so as not to make them angry with you in the event of a bathroom emergency. As for if you’re solo, you just have to build a good vibe between the people you next to and tell them when you are going. It’ll be appreciated later (as Devron pointed out) and they’ll probably have no problem with it as long as you aren’t a dick to them/others around you.
Last year I was leaving BB (I worked there) and I got the store to buy 3 pizzas for the people waiting outside since they’d be there all night, and they’d spend the money there anyway. Anyone have a similar event happen to them?
Oh, and has anyone gotten any stock information on the Wii? All I’ve found is that there’ll be roughly 4 million world-wide on release (I don’t even know the numbers for the other releases…).

I realise i am chimming in late here but i just read all of the negativity from this LITTLE person named HEWTASH. Hopefuly what i say is the last that is said.
All of us here have lives, all of us here have people that share our ideals and hobbies. Just because we charrish something that others donnot and find it either childish or stupid is something that is either being hidden from others about themselves or something else. It is not our fault you cant have a real life cause yer either nuts or your jealsous cause we all have a real life and relationships and your whatever is heavier than you are. Maybe its the juice or they just dont eat right. Who cares, we odviously dont.

Let me just say, that any girl would much rather date a geek that waited in line for a PS3 or Wii for FUN than anyone who would go out of their way to be a jerk to people they don’t even know. Most geeks aren’t lonely guys (or girls) that sit playing video games all day. I know plenty of geeks, male and female, who, contrary to Hewtash’s statement, go outside, play sports, and have lots of friends. Most of us here- guys and girls- will be waiting outside for our new console with our friends, having a good time despite rain, sleepiness and cold. It may just be me, but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s all lot more fun than sitting at home by yourself making fun of an internet thread.
That being said, who else is looking forward to Twilight Princess? I was a little disappointed in Windwaker, so as soon as I make it in to Best Buy and grab my console, I’m heading straight for Zelda. I’m bummed out that the Elebits release date has been pushed back, though. It looks like it could be a really cool multiplayer game in the same vein as Katamari Damacy.

Yo, cool article. i plan on going to best buy and talking to the manager this weekend. I am 16 and have four friends tagging along. I will go around six AM on the 18th and follow ur advice. Do you know at least how many systems are gonna be at the best buy inWarwick Rhode Island and how early i should go (is 6 am early enough). i will probably comment back when i talk to the manager though. anyways.. im not sure guys… after seein wut my buddy did with 600 and then lookin at ps3 im considering forgettin about it. he found a guy who mods 360’s and bought one for 450ish 500 with an extra controller and its modded to play burned games. he now has just about every great game on there i can think of and they only cost 5 bux each. compared to 70 and….. and for some reason Halo, Gears of war, and the 360 in general is growin on me. ive just about got a ps3 secured since my friends pops is high up in toys r us but i too am leaning towards just sellin it.

I looked at the link mookie put up and it said my locations should already have their ps3’s. Of course, the managers say they don’t have any yet and don’t know how many they’ll get. It’s pretty obvious they know but aren’t saying which has been well documented. I wish the website had predictions of how many got delivered.

Hey, Hewtash…. look, besides the point of the fact that the stupid conversations on this thread have probably gone too far (and i’ve seen a lot of the gamers adding to that and make it worse), whatever anyone wants to do with their life, they can. i think it’s great that you body build and so does your bf (if you were serious) that’s cool to have muscles (and props to you for being able to hold that kind of weight). I don’t really care to have that at all, and i never really cared for extremely muscular girls either (no offense to you; but thats not to say i’m into large girls either). But we like our games, and we play them, and if we want to get in line a long time before so we know we have one, well thats our decision. i just know that this year it’ll be hard to come by one and i’d like to be able to know i can get one. i’d also like to say, nerd that i am, i communicate well with girls (and guys) and am usually the one my friends come to talk to if they need anything (in repsonse to your earlier assertation that we cant communicate) i also dont have lightsabers or costumes… i don’t do that kind of thing. i might once for like a costume party or something, but thats it. buyt hey, w/e, its free speech. i’m glad you do take an interest in our lives and try to help us out. i just wish this thread could be kept to just what is was about: guides to camping outside stores. thanks.

My gf and I are camping out next week, we’re getting 2, selling one to pay for our snowboarding and Wii since we are but poor college kids. If you find out more post it here. As covered above, try and find a less traveled store or go to best buy, which will likely get the most consoles.

I didn’t like the PS3 commercials. It didn’t make me remotely more interested in the PS3. They could have done better, imo.

I tried pre-ordering Twilight Princess today and found out that BB isn’t doing Pre-orders at all for the release.
I know it is 1 per person, cause my store from where i am from will not allow you to buy more than just 1 per person. Our WalMart still doesnt know how many they are getting yet, but the departmant manager says you can have two people (a couple) buy two of them, but they cannot be bought on the same purchase. It must be different purchases bought sepperatly.

Can anyone give me an idea as to how i can get my hands onto one of the ps2 memory card converters for the ps3? I hope i would only have to go to EB or GS to be able to get one on launch day. I have alot of ps2 games that i like to pleay and i will sit and play them before i get to be able to get any of the new titles for the ps3.

how can you camp out at all 4? If you have buddies you may want to pick the best place and stand together to help protect eachother’s spot during bathroom breaks and the like. Ideally you’ll want to all be within the first 5, otherwise you may want to split up to be safe…i dunno.
By the way, Where i am camping at inside of our WalMart, i have talked alot with the Dept. Mgr. about the line they are going to have. As Twords the bathroom breaks and stuff, all we need to do is tell an assosiate what we are going to do, how long we are going to be gone and such. We cant leave the store, but we can make pit stops and not loose our spot in line. But if you are gone for longer than the time you say you are going to be gone, you could loose your spot in the line and your chance at a ps3/Wii.

I preorder Twilight Princess at gamestop. I’ll probably end up getting it wherever I get a Wii, which will probably be Target, circuit city, or walmart. I think I’ll be able to get my $ back. Regarding your question about the controller adapter, there’s a Pelican PS2/PS3 controller adapter in the EBGames upcoming accessories list. I’m certain that there will be more than one type available, but perhaps not at launch. I’d probably only buy the Sony branded one just to be on the safe side. No need to save a few bucks with things like this. But just hang on — you don’t need your game saves on the PS3 that quickly, do you? Why spend all that money just to play old games?

madden 07, nba 2k7, Rainbow six: vegas, call of duty 3, of course resistance…those are all still available at launch…right?
anybody hear anything about the quality of the blue ray player in ps3? I’m getting this thing to watch 1080p movies too. The ps2 was known for being a low quality dvd player in comparison to stand alone units. Do you think ps3 will be a bad blue ray player in comparrison to other stand alone units (sony’s first one will cost more than ps3). I’ve heard the only other one on the market sucks (samsung).
Blueberry – you’re on the ball. Most of those are part of the list of PS3 launch games that I’ve read about — although I haven’t seen Rainbox Six on those lists, but perhaps I could just be out of the loop with that game. Those are all of the titles (excluding Madden) that I’d think about picking up on launch day.
I know most of the folks that come to the site frequent this message board (and I’m honored), but I wrote a story on the main blog about why I’m not buying a PS3 (The $600 Question.). I had a chance to play around with one at a Target and I played NBA 07 and Motorstorm and I was really underwhelmed. There’s no doubt in my mind that the system is going to be incredible and as we approach May and June of 07, we’ll see better quality releases. Especially as we get to this time in 2007, we’ll see great releases that may even begin to create distance between the PS3 and the 360, but for right now, it would just be a few exclusive releases that would draw me there — Resistance, MGS4, Warhawk, Virtua Fighter 5. Other than that, all of the stuff that’s being released is also being released for the 360. Don’t mistake what I’m saying — if I wasn’t in between jobs right now, there’s no doubt in my mind that I’d be buying one. And there’s absolutely no chance that I won’t be owning a PS3. Even if the system has less than stellar reviews and sells slowly, I’ll still be buying. But as for dipping into the savings at a tight time like this to play Resistance (especially when Gears is holding my attention), I’ll just sit and watch. But I will be buying a Wii.
You asked a GREAT question with regard to the Blu-ray player. I will be going to HD Beat/Engadget HD to see what those guys have to say. They have trained eyes and can tell the difference between the Samsung player ($999) and the PS3. This is an area where I wouldn’t trust the opinions of the video gaming press because those folks generally know games but not tech to the degree that the Engadget guys do. If they post the review, I’ll be sure to carry it here. I do recall the PS2 being regarded as a poor DVD player (I also recall the classic Xbox being regarded poorly as well.) Coincidentally the 360 is supposed to be a great upscaling DVD player. I don’t know about the 360 HD DVD player, but Engadget did just get one in today.

the blu-ray player for movies is how I convinced my wife to let me get a new sony 1080p tv and the ps3 so it better be good. I’m lucky because my birthday is nov. 15th so i’m getting a ps3 for my combo birthday/xmas present. My wife and I gave ourselves our x’mas bonuses early to get the tv. Otherwise I probably couldn’t swing it either. Sony must love people like me ’cause they’re counting on the ps3 selling hdtv’s.
I wish i didn’t have fight night 3 on the ps2 already. It’s gonna make it hard to want to buy it on ps3 but it’s the game i play most with my friends right now and it looks like there is a big improvement to the graphics so maybe i will. That game ruins my controllers though with all the crazy rotating on the analog sticks.

Yeah – the info in that link is a little outdated. (Perhaps if Stranglehold was really a launch title I would be changing my mind!) As much as I despise the store, EBGames tends to keep their release calendar pretty regularly. I go to EBGames.com and then to PS3 (on the left) and then there’s a “Coming Soon” section. These dates are probably pretty solid, although they are subject to change.
Besides these titles, don’t look for anything until February. And because I’ve been here before, it’s been my experience that the release dates at the beginning of the year are just placeholders. You’ll see a lot of “1/1” and “3/1” dates. Usually anything on the first of a month is usually because the distributor had to put a stake in the mud in terms of when they expect the game to be released. In some cases the dates will move up, but more often than not the dates will move back.
So! With those “enticing” games staring everyone in the face, is there anyone else but me who thinks that there are gonna be a lot of bored, BluRay watching and Virtual Console playing PS3 owners this holiday season??? 🙂
yeah I can see your point if you’re getting this thing to do a rediculous amount of gaming right now. I don’t have time to play a ton of games so I only need a couple at a time (resistance, nba 2k7, madden 07, call of duty 3, then rainbow six outa do it). The online modes should provide more than enough gaming hours for me. More games like mgs4 will come out soon enough. Also, I only want to buy one system that will last me 5 years and I want to pick the system that will be the best at the end of the cycle…my money’s on ps3.
Also, ps3 has 1080p gaming and movies out of the box which is the “holy grail” of hd. Blu-ray movie players cost more than a ps3 so that justifies a lot of the cost if you’re really into movies like me.
If the goal is to own one system that will be the best (for gaming and movies) I still go with ps3 of course I havn’t already invested in 360.
also sonic got pushed back just a bit but still should be out for holidays…not that i care
damn that gears of war though. that’s the only game that makes me really want a 360. resistance better be amazing.
I’m desperately hoping we’re gonna get some good reviews of the system’s performance regaurding games and movies before we have to wait in line. the ps3 launches in japan in a little more than 4 hours so we should here something shortly after that. If the blu-ray player is good and the system works good i’ll camp out. If not, I may consider 360 w/hd-dvd add-on. Let’s just hope ps3 lives up to the hype.
$600 a pop is a lot of hype to live up to though… Here’s hoping.
$600 is not a lot for a next-gen gaming system and a blu-ray player in one if you’ve already invested in a high def tv. You can’t compare it to the wii. The question is will it do what they say it will do well.

There are already a few reviews posted from Kotaku for the lower profile titles Genji and Tony Hawk’s Project 8 (I guess that’s another game added to the list above). Not great scores, but I wouldn’t expect them from these titles. They come via GameSpot. Genji got a 6.4 and Tony Hawk got a 7.3.
There’s no doubt in my mind after looking at the developer commitment — particularly in Japan — that the PS3 is going to pick up tremendous momentum. I do think that expectations are a bit high and hopefully when people realize that the games at launch don’t represent the best of the system’s performance it doesn’t backfire.

Anyone else going to be waiting in Omaha, Nebraska? Today I’m planning on talking to managers at Best Buy, Toys ‘R’ Us, and maybe a few other stores. I’m bringing a friend, and possibly a couple more, but could always use more company. I’ll be bringing a few foldup chairs, sleeping bags (in case anyone gets cold), etc.

By the way, a good piece of advice that I didn’t see posted here – check weather.gov for the forecast for when you plan on camping. Weather.com seems to hype things up to get a bigger audience. Anyways, it’s always nice to know if you should wear 2 layers, or 4 or if you’ll need an umbrella or ziplock freezer bags to protect any portable gaming systems you have. =)
I dont think I’ll have to camp to get one if I get to walmart at 11:00 then gettin like 2-4. then go home and go to target at prob 5 dependin on how long the lines are at walmart then if i dont have 8 ill go to cc or bb.
Kyle – I like the fact that you have backup plans, but the one thing that you probably need to do next week is find out if your stores are gonna be allocated any units. At this point, I think anyone who does NOT have a pre-order will have to camp out. All indications from my sources are that the unit allocations are even tighter than they predicted.
If you mean going on line at 11pm for a 12am opening, I think you’ll be in for a rude awakening. I made it to the mall at 4:30 am on the eve of the 360 launch and there were about 20 folks lined up at Circuit City and twice that at Target and Walmart. Keep in mind — this was for the 360, which isn’t even near the PlayStation name and popularity.
Look at it this way — you either wait now and insure yourself a system OR you wait until March when the replenishments come in. (Don’t forget, units will need to be allocated to Europe for their Q1 2007 launch.)

I don’t live in a very popular area so I do not think that this will be a problem…I understand what you are saying and thank you for trying to help it is greatly appreciated, but as I said before I don’t live in a very popular area. Which in this case is a great thing. I know that If i get to Target at like 4-5 and it opens at 7 I should be fine. then bb ad cc open at 10 so after I leave target if I don’t have all 8 that I am trying to get then I will go there. Basically I am going to walmart just to get an idea of how long the lines will be so if I don’t get one there then that shouldn’t be much of a problem for me.

Here is a camp-out bathroom tip for the guys. It has always worked for me. Bring and use an empty gallon carton as a -Number 1- recepticle. This way you don’t lose your spot in line. Just be sure to go inside your tent to do it!
And when you need it empty you give it out to others in the line ahead of you so that they get rid of it and possibly get sick and have to leave the line… Sorry, I had to say it. But that is a good idea for those going solo.

If you’re able to wait inside the mall and know that that is where the line is going to be (talk to the store manager) then that’s a good idea, as long as you aren’t #257 or something outrageous like that. Although, even being #30 is risky in the case of PS3. As for the time, if you mean 04:30 then that should be fine, but if you meant 4:30pm then you might be pushing your luck, but that kinda depends on the area you’re in.

the line starts at the right side of the doors and they will have bracelets to show that u are waiting for a system. They start launch at 9:00 am and the line starts anytime.
the bathroom rules are that u have a half hour but that doesn’t matter because u have bracelets if u wait in line. I plan to go at 6:00 am on saturday, good luck to all of u.
I talked to a Best Buy manager today, who said he has no idea how many units they’re expecting. He did say though, that usually with big launches he’ll go out in line and give vouchers to the first few people so they’re guaranteed a unit. He says they’re opening early – 8 am, and the earliest the line can form is at close the day before. So is it safe to assume, in anyone’s opinion, that the lines at closing time will instantly start, or no? I guess the only way to truly find out is to be there.

Wow this is a great site with some awesome info. I was fortunate enough to be # 1 in line at the preoder at the local E/B games. I am the second to get one behind the manager. I did not know about the tips stated here but did use to one degree or another do a lot of what is posted. These are very exciting times and the wait goes faster than you think. Now that I think about it the 14 hours I spent in line is actually good compared to what others will have to do to secure a system. I wish all you gamers luck in getting one 🙂
i found a blu-ray review on http://www.ign.com….sorta. They don’t have any comparisons or anything. They said it “looks incredible” or something, I guess I should be stoked but I want some real comparisons with hd-dvd and other blu-ray. Is that too much to ask? They confirmed that it doesn’t upscale dvd’s, that’s a huge bummer.
Does anybody know about how the games you want to buy for the Wii will be set up? Will all the games that have release dates of the 19th be available?
Okay, I used to work at BB when the 360 came out. We knew how many units we’d get 2 weeks before-hand, but were informed that if we told anyone we’d be fired instantly (no joke, a few people did get fired for leaking out the information). So, you can’t go with them saying they don’t know.
As for the line officially starting the closing of the night beforehand, that’s bull-hockey (I felt that that word didn’t get used in a long time) Cause that’s another thing we were supposed to tell people “or else”. Also, the local BB here is not openning early, they never have for any release.
So there is my “tips from an ex-BB Media guy” and I hope that it helps you realize that when they say they don’t know, they do. The only thing is that Nintendo is in charge of the shipping (the major companies always are for the big releases) and so they can’t say they’ll have it when they don’t have it in they’re hands yet and thus the secrecy. They also don’t know when they will get the next shipment in cause they’re search system just says how many are ordered and how many are in stock. Both numbers basically stay the same for the first 5-6 months after a release (until the mad dash to buy goes down).
Oh, and some games have already had a change in the release date to be later. FOr instance, Elebits (which promises to be as trippy as Katamari Damacy) has been pushed back to Dec 12… Darn.
well, since everyone on here knows im currently working at best buy, if anyone read my first few posts, i already explained that even when we do find out (which we didnt for the ps3 until about 2 days ago), its easier to say to the customer “we dont know” than to say “we arent allowed to give out that kind of information.” that makes you sound like a jerk when you say it like that.
another hint, our ad will let you know on sunday what our minimum amount of systems will be, so get on the site and look up the weekly ad that day.
also, best buy doesnt have restrictions for how early you can start camping or what you can bring (tents, projectors.. lol)

No one answered this before, but I am planning on going to a Costco (you gotta be a member to buy a PS3, but I haven’t heard any news on Costco or Sam’s Club…I’m starting to doubt these stores are getting any) or a Circuit City. I gonna get there like at around early morning (4 to 8 am) on Thurs. the 16th.
My Circuit City isn’t really popular and there are hardly anybody ever there. I’m wondering how to start a line if there isn’t a line started at Circuit City and where I should start a line there?

This is a pretty good article. I fondly remember camping out for Xbox 360 last year in front of a CircuitCity where there was a Hippie claiming the shortage was intentional by Microsoft, a Columbia MBA debating him, an avowed drug dealer showing everybody the $2000 cash he had on him, and 4 guys running shifts for one system among other crazy things. The later part is noteworthy because some mom showed up 2 hours before the store opened and assumed the guys talking shifts were cutting in line … so she called the cops around 8AM and then a news crew showed up … ah memories …
From my firsthand knowledge there are a few simple rules (note these are mostly similar to what is in the article):
1) FIND OUT HOW MANY UNITS THE STORE HAS AND ASK SEVERAL EMPLOYEES — Ask the manager but *also* ask 2 employees at least 1 day before. Sometimes the “manager” is not really the manager. It’s good to ask “gamer” looking employees because chances are they are aware and know what you are talking about AND multiple sources will help verify the number of units. For example if the manager says they have 20 but the employees all say they have 17, then the store has 17. This works better than getting their name because in a dispute: it is your word against theirs, they can say things like “I *think* we have …”, and finally the retailers usually prep their employees about these sorts of things.
2) DO NUMBER 1 BEFORE YOU GET IN LINE — It does not usually make sense to be the 25th person when there are 20 units and twenty people in line already; especially because of Number 3 below. Also do not count on people leaving the line or trying to force them out by yelling at them. For the Xbox360 launch the store had 24 units total and yet even though we told people after about the 26th person how many the store had, the line was still 40 people long and people waited 10 hours in the freezing rain for nothing. Try to plan so you are in line before the cusp of people in line vs. systems the store has.
3) AT LEAST GET TO KNOW THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU AND THE PERSON BEHIND YOU AS WELL AS THEIR NUMBERS IN LINE — You basically want as many people in front of you to vouch for you since they have been waiting the longest. Talking to the guy behind you is also important if you are not on the cusp and want stretch your legs, etc. Try to be the helpful guy with the info when you enter the line “I talked to 3 employees and they said they have 15 Premium and 9 Core units so there are 24 total. You are number 7, I am number 8, and whoever shows up next is 9 …” Sure these strangers could cut your nuts off if you go to sleep but if you can be nice and convince (not guarantee) the three of you are all getting systems, chances are they won’t.
4) BE PREPARED — Waiting in line usually sucks. Like the article says it is winter *and* you will likely be waiting through the night when it gets *colder* so bundle up. People brought folding chairs, tents, a portable TV and gamecube, umbrellas, etc. to both stay warm AND pass the time. Cell phones are great in case of trouble (MAKE SURE THEY ARE CHARGED) and allow people to find out rumors like how some people at a Walmart in WV had reached the promised land at Midnight or that the BestBuy in DC ended up *requiring* people to buy bundles!
Last year at my CircuitCity in Maryland, around 3 people starting lining up around 8PM the day before, and like the article notes I drove by around 11PM just to check by and ended up getting in line (number 8) without winter type clothes. Since it was just me, I barely slept and just sat in the freezing rain. I vouched for the people behind me and they eventually loaned me a blanket as they pulled their car up to the curb and slept. In the morning they had to move it and got in line with no issues. The store then opened at 10AM and handed out numbered sheets which could be used to purchase systems at 11AM when the store reopened. One guy was number 13 in line and even though we told him he was going to get a system he left around 3AM to go to a BestBuy in DC; so the original 25th person in line was half-lucky as they got to buy a Core system when they would have been SOL.
One final note, Nintendo and Sony are trying to crack down on it but I really wish I had sold my Premium Xbox 360 for $1000 on ebay. Especially after I had a coupon that did *not* contain an Xbox 360 exception and used my cashback credit card so the Premium system only cost me 359.99 after tax — the CircuitCity was also one of the stores that did *not* accept preorders. I love my Xbox360 but at that price, waiting in line yields a good hourly wage.

I looked up the Roanoke, VA ad and it still says at least 20 premium and 6 core. Maybe you Wolf only saw the core picture and saw “minimum 6 per store” and thought it meant for core and premium combined? It says the same thing on the front page, too.
yeah, i typed in your zip (24012) at bestbuy.com, weekly ad. It said 20 prem 6 core. So it’s not the same ad as you got in the paper (unless you read it wrong as machoman said).

I’m hoping i’m crazy so i’ll get one but I don’t know. I haven’t said I’m gonna start that early until now because I don’t want to encourage others but I kinda want to know where I stand considering none of you live where I live (most likely).
I just went to BB here and they are only getting 6 units total (it says it in the ad online for my area too). It’s different in each area based on sales for every area.

Yeah, I checked that too. Basically the site says that there’s gonna be 96 units at my store, but there’s only supposed to be 75 (although the guy also said that the word around work was that they’d probably get a bunch more than that…)

Oh, as for the drinking question someone asked earlier. The people in line might not care (or they might really care) but the store itself definitely wouldn’t appreciate it. Also there’s the while thing of public intoxication being illegal in most parts… The guy with the wine openner could be openning something else, like that fake champagne you get for the kids at Thanksgiving or something like that. Or any number of random things in a bottle with a cork.
It’s probably in your best interest to go without drinking that night as a precaution. Y’know, better safe than sorry…

i’ll be waiting in line for a wii at the Times Square Toys R Us launch in NYC. I’ve got a preorder already for my Wii and copy of the Twilight Princess, but I’m going to try to get there a bit early to take photos of the whole thing. It would be amazing if I could be the first person on line and have Reggie sell it to me, but I dont think i’ll get there THAT early because it’s not really necessary. I’m wondering, how many people do you guys think will be there and when they’ll start lining up? (i know it would just be a guess) I know a lot of people preordered theirs at gamestop or the nintendo world store before toys r us even started selling them. Just curious about what to expect.

Some stores say there is an official line-starting time, but they really can’t control when it starts, and since they don’t want to lose your business (especially places like BB) they aren’t going to do anything about you starting a line as long as you aren’t causing people to not go into the store or are just being a pest to persons. You’re able to line up as long as you are civil with everyone. Otherwise the store might try to make you leave.

just went by bb. Most the employees confirmed that our bb should get 20 premium and 6 core. No line started yet. Things are looking good for me to start the line on the 15th…everyone in the store was talking about lining up early on the 16th. Everyone said there is no limit when the line can start at my location. They had a demo ps3 running motorstorm too. First time i’ve seen the system in person and I wasn’t dissapointed.
hey im going down to my walmart tonight so i can make sure if any one is in line yet for the ps3. It is very unlikely that there will be but if there is just one person there then i will start waiting tonight! if not then i will go back tomorow night and do the same thing and i might even wait there even if i am the first but i will wait the next day for sure. I just got back from walmart and there is no line yet but a guy that works there told me rumors of people that will start lining up tomorow night and he has the next couple days off and dosnt have to come in on friday so he said he is probly going to get in line tomorow night too. The good thing about waiting in line at walmart is that it is open 24 hours so they have the line set up inside. That means no rain and no freezing wheather! One more thing, Im not sure this is for every walmart but the one i just went to had just gotten thier systems in tonight and they will only have 10 for sale so i am hoping to be in line so i dont get stuck with a 20gb ps3 instead of a 60gb ps3 and even though it dosnt matter much i will get to pick what colour i want cause i think there will be black, white, and silver ones.

hey, this is my first time camping for a system. I plan to go to the BestBuy in Maryland around 1 PM the saturday before the launch of the Wii on sunday. Will that be enough time, or what should I do?
our bb just updated their phone system to say that the line could start “up to 24 hrs before the launch”, not before I’m assuming. I called another location and they didn’t have this rule yet. It must vary store to store. I wonder how many tiimes they’ll kick me out before they let me stay. We’ll see.
Employees said the line was over 50 for 360 last year and with the buzz they’re hearing about ps3, they think there may be more demand for this launch. Only 26 ps3’s to go around…yikes.

Hey all, I’m going to the Tampa, Fl Walmart on Bruce B. Downs on Thursday the 16th, around noon. The store will have some at a midnight opening. After that, I will go to wait outside the nearby target store that opens at 8 am and see if I can get another for my cousin who is recovering from cancer. If anyone wants to meet up or something so that we don’t get screwed over, jut reply.
Im from Lansing, MI, and my boyfriend said Best Buy is getting a minimum of 27 PS3s. I work at Target and they have no clue (the got 18 360’s so I am guessing 10-15 PS3s. Me and my boyfriend are each getting one from Target. We’re going to drive past every hour starting Wednesday morning, with our car packed, so if there are people, we can just stop and set up camp!

Some BB stores have wifi built into their stores, but it’s only the big ones and you sometimes need to have a password (which the management might give you since you’re waiting to spend so much at their store)… I’d check at the store you’re going to wait at and see if you can get online.
Did anybody notice the guy who said his wal-mart had gotten 10 ps3s. well at the very end he says hes at least gonna chose what color hes gonna get black, white, or silver. somebody has miss informed this guy on playstation 3 since everybody nows its coming in black. and the 60 gig has some silver triming to it. oh and just to let yall know you can remove the hard drive and add a bigger one to it. as long as its a sata hard drive, ive already ordered a 400gig hard drive from seagate. ill be getting my playstation 3 today from japan. i ordered my from http://www.play-asia.com the day it came out in japan and i happen to go to the website and they had both versions of the ps3 instock so i ordered it. my account has been charged and i checked the tracking service and it has shipped and is scheduled to arrive today nov. 14th, 2006 between 3pm-6pm. so my playstation 3 gaming will start few days before a lot of americans. i live in herlong, ca. 50 miles north of reno, nv.
Okay, Kublai Khan is obviously just trying to get people to buy from play-asia… Both the posts made by the SN have mentioned how they “Just got there system” in a pre-order deal.

Also, he mentions in the first post (that I saw) that he got it for a bit extra (I think it was around $800) but that it was worth it. I don’t think I’d want to give money to a company that backed out of a whole bunch of pre-order deals they made in order to make more money off of other people. Taking a pre-order is a promise, and a form of contract, don’t screw over the people you make that contract/deal with.
Sorry, It’s just that both times I saw that post I just was annoyed, and it kinda makes me think it’s someone who works for the company…

Back on topic, anyone think it’d be wise to bring a fryer if there is an outlet in front of the BB you’re camping at? I just got one and can make lots of good food throughout the night if I brought it, but wondered what others though.

On another note, I mentioned to the local Taco Del Mar (A burrito place in my part of the country) that I’d be camping out with my Gf for the Wii. They told us that if we took the menus they’d provide us with and get orders from enough people in the line, they’d give us our food for free. It’s a good incentive deal to try to get more cash for the restaurant and give free food to ourselves. You might want to try making a deal like that at a local non-delivery restaurant near where you’re camping out. Makes you look good to the other waiting persons (maybe move up in the line?), and gets you some free food (who can say no to that?).
What are these horror stories I keep reading about from past experiences? Not only is it a gruesome battle to buy either system but to really worry about getting it home is a whole other story. What do you people bring for protection if any? Im bringing mace and brass knuckles and a friend as well. Really interested in hearing these so-called horror stories.

Also, replacing the hard drive may void the warranty…be sure to check on that.

Regarding FOOD in LINE – I wouldn’t recommend bringing a grill or fryer! The property owners will not want an open flame or any sort of fire hazard in their parking lots. It might even be a violation of the “City Fire Code”. Bring picnic food or order pizza delivery. It is not worth losing your spot in line.

camping has started in front of best buy in salem oregon!
so far they look pretty settled in, but i have the day off so im not sure if we’re going to ask them to leave. probably not!

How many? I plan on going to Walmart early Thursday morning (around 5ish). I called in today, and they said they won’t allow anyone in line until 6 AM Thursday. I know there will be people waiting long before that, but my question is how will Walmart go about doing this? It’s open 24 hours, so the “official” line will most likely be indoors. They said there will be a big “rush” of people coming in and fighting for a spot in line. But what’s to stop one from waiting right where the line starts and just stepping in at 6 o’clock? This really is a bit ridiculous, since the people who arrive at 6 AM promptly are just as likely to grab the #1 spot in line as the people who have been waiting all night/day. Do I understand this correctly? My friend is going there right now and will give me a call tonight or tomorrow with more info. I’ll post what he finds out whether someone clarifies this or not. But, any info/advice is greatly appreciated.
I just went down to bb again to try to start the line. They said I couldn’t be there till 8am thursay (24 hrs before release). I asked “what happens if I stay?” They said “we ask you to leave, if you don’t we call the cops”. Damn.

Wow. Im Ready. Ill be camping (in the actual wilderness) on friday till saturday around 2 P.M. Immediatly once i get back im hitting up Best Buy in Texas and jumping in line. Guys okay so Im a newbie just doing this for my BF cause he really wants it for xmas and would never expect it. Anyways im gonna stay at circuit city they advertised that they will have 100 units and are giving them away at midnight. The guy in the store said you cant line up til 9 am on thursday though which is good. My friend and I were gonna get there at 7 on thursday and just check out whats going on because I honestly think people will be there before that. Laura you have to pay attention to who is going to get them. The big cities such as LA, NY, Chi Town etc are getting a 100. Not everyone. Your best bet is to go to a Wal mart where most of the population are old people and the wal mart isn’t in a twenty mile radius of a college or high school. I have always went to the country wal marts and had no problem obtaining a system. All younger audiences first attempt is going to be CC or BB. Don’t get me wrong, going for those places are cool but thats where the hard core gamers show up. I saw on CNN that they are already camping out in front of BB with tents and things. Also, if you can, get you a BUM. Bums don’t have anything to do and there bodies are quite accustomed to the harsh weather. So scabble up an extra 30 bucks and a small bottle of MD 20/20 and watch how you get your system!

I’m going to make rounds in BB’s to try and confirm is Bluebery’s intel (only 24 hours before) is valid. If it is, I’m bringing my nasty face to the store thurs. morning. I’m personally available from wed. night, but I don’t want to do that unless I absolutely have to. Thurs. morning is ideal…a bottle of jack is necessary.
Ask your store. It may depend on the store manager but mine was very clear that security and police will keep the lot clear until 8am thursday. The cops in my town don’t have anything better to do so I beleive it.
yea, I’m making rounds tomorrow afternoon to get the info on local options. All I know is that if it is 8am, and there are like 30 people waiting for those 20 spots, I will be throwing elbows left and right. Women and children be ware hahah
the same manager said they didn’t get a line-up for 360 until about 4pm the day before but he’s getting a lot more people asking about this one. Hopefully it won’t be choas like we’re expecting but it sure looks like it.

The citcuit city 100 give away is for two of the stores in New Jersey where I live. I know best buy and Circuit city will be the busiet but target said they are only gonna get 6 or fewer units same for walmart. Also the walmarts around here are so trashy i wouldnt wanna go there. So do you think going at 7 am is a good idea since he said we cant line up to 9 am….what should i do drive up and drop my friend off…what do you think others are gonna do…

I’m scoping out the stores and talking to their employees/managers on wed. If they are adamant about a 24 hour max, I will be there around 7am. If there is a crowd, it will get nasty, but I feel very determined and I’m not as physically meek as many afficianados…

I agree with you on the stores laura. If you’re getting one between you and your friend that plan may work well. If you each want one, don’t expect that she’ll be able to hold your spot while you park your car. Just get there early and feel it out. If the police are there i’m sure they’ll inform you.

you could probably hold eachother’s spots one at a time once your place in line has been established. I’ve been told that bb is pretty good at using employees to help you document places in line and cordinate bathroom breaks.
Yeah actually 2 of the CC in neighboring towns are in the flyer stating there getting 100 units. I am gonna go to the town I think less people will go towards. I think right now my biggestconcern is exactly what to do thursday morning as far as getting in the line like I just dont know what to expect you know!!!

I hope not but ya never know. If you’re at one of the spots where they’re giving 100 away i’m sure they’ll have security and/or employees and/or police to keep things calm at the start. Especially if a crowd forms. Plan on having a different friend bring you your stuff in line or drop you two off if possible.
Go early and try to be friendly if security or the cops ask you to leave. Bulls**t with them awhile and make them like you. Maybe they’ll give you some secrets.

The CC in my area is already blown up. Radio promotions have drawn a freak crowd. I think their allocation is already in line. In some ways, the 24 hour bestbuy rule is good. It means I don’t have to wait for days on end, but it also creates a possible indecisive mobish moment when they do open up the line…
The only tip I could give is that I am trying to scope non-big market BBs (ones in less affluent/buyer conscious locales). It was a tip that a 360er gave me from last year, and I think it should be helpful…

Went to Circut City last year for the x-box 360 ..Was secound in line..Started at 2 pm the day before…Found the best luck at C.C. for camping out…Made new gamer friends… Did this on camp out deal for about 6 times in my life…I found bring a chair set it down… and if your first wait till th next person comes..ask Him or her like a buddy..Example I was able to take off for 3 hours and then he or she be next..But make shure you dont start doing this until all of the people are in line for how many units are per store…So that people don’t cry I did not see him all night etc.. One guy was trying to save 5 spots..Thease people never waited not even 4 of the first five hours..He said they have to work you know..I said I took off of work to be here…
Point is Watch out for Circut City..They try that Bundle Bull shit at the last Min..And its not advertized… Some Dude was 50.00 short…I said Ill give you the 50.00..But give me the game of my choice…

When I’m rich and famous, I’m moving to California. Original, eh? =). I’m going to Walmart at 4 AM Thursday morning for a PS3. They’ll set out a chair (in the layaway section) for each PS3 they have, and at 6 AM there’s going to be a mad rush for the chairs. If you get a chair, 18 hours later (at midnight) you’ll be walking out of Walmart with a PS3. Then you’ll get mugged in the parking lot and the 18 hours of sitting in a chair in Walmart are all for nothing! lol. I’m going to have someone waiting for us right at the entrance in a van so we can hop in and get the hell outta’ there. Any suggestions as to what to bring while sitting in a chair for 18 hours straight? PSP, GBA SP, DS, maaaybe a laptop (I won’t leave my bag, so it’s not like someone’ll steal it), food, deck of cards, more food, and some comfy pajamas. What else? Oh yeah, Walmart will order us a pizza on them, so that’ll be nice =).
Find a season of a show you like. Sopranos, 24, family guy…i don’t know. It’s like waiting in an airport. I find watching dvd’s passes the time quickest…oh and alcohol doesn’t hurt…just like in the airport.

Theres plenty of articles on the web and in magazines out there that have confirmed this. and one thing im tryin to let people know about play-asia.com not trying to get people to buy from them. i just wanna let gamers know you can buy one from them and not worry about region encoding. you can play usa and japanese games on the japanese version of the ps3. and it has language selection which includes english. the only thing you can’t do is watch blu-ray movies from america. but hell you can import them from japan and still watch them in the entirety. trust me play-asia.com has a few consoles left. and as far as the hard disk drive goes it is replaceable theres an article i was reading yesterday from a website on the net. and it they have a copy of the manual and they had highlighted in the manual where you could replace the hdd. the hdd is on the bottom of the ps3, just open the slot that has hdd on it and slide the ps3 hard drive out take it out of its case get your new hard drive put it in the case and put it back in the hdd slot. don’t forget to format it. the warranty will not void since it clearly states in the manual you can do this. beware though not all hard drives will work.

well here in toronto best buy/futureshop and suprisingly wal mart are really the only options.. if u dont have a pre-order and its gunna be a balmy 11 degrees and rain on thursday.. but nonetheless im getting there either weds nite when i scout out my bestbuy.. or thursday morning if theres no line yet..

360 lines in my area were’nt too bad. I got to my costco at 11, nobody was there so i waited in the car till three. The store confirmed 24, all premium, and i actually wouldnt have had to get in line till around 6. The store opened at 9. I was gonna do the same this year, but my costco is getting jack squat.
i havn’t heard about really bad 360 lines. Maybe this launch is getting blown outta proportion. We’ll see.
Hey I got in line about 7:00 pm (11/14) earlier at walmart and i was fourth in line and its a good thing i got there when i did causes now the line is full with 10 people and its been for for about 4 or 5 hours. Anyways my brothers there right now taking the night shift and ill be back there tomorow morning haha its going to be worth it though!

Im 16 and im going with my little brother for a ps3. I live in a small town so i should be able to wait at wal-mart from thursday 5 pm to friday 7 am (doors open) and get one. This will be my first camp for a console thingy and i hope it will be something great that i remember =]

After re-reading the guide, I decided to go back to my hometown which is actually well-known as like the 2nd or 3rd largest retirement city in the US. I hope this works well to my advantage. I called the electronics manager and after speaking on the phone for a couple minutes and being nice (he was gay), I remembered his face and he also told me if I was in line at Wednesday at 10pm, they were handing out vouchers! Living in Tampa, I had to work it out with my classes and my family so my little sister and mom will be saving two spots in line (one for me n for my recovering cancer-survivor cousin). I am really glad that I made that call because up here in Tampa, the Walmart I had planned to go to already had 10 people in line Tuesday morning. The Best Buy in our town guaranteed 20 PS3 and a midnight launch, and sure enough, come Tuesday morning, 20 people were already in line. Things looked pretty bleak and I was getting a lil depressed.
Oh yea, I’ll be waiting in shorts and a t-shirt in the south Florida weather.

I completely realize that this is the story that folks come for, but seeing the traffic really brightened up my day. My job was outsourced to India and as a gamer, this was something that I did to try and get my mind away from my situation. It has exceeded even my expectations, but only because of the folks who come and share their thoughts.

People started to line up yesterday at around 830 pm, i got there around 930 and was 5th in line. i wasnt even that serious about stayin, i just wanted to see what was goin on. the store manager said he only had 2 and “hopefully 8 more on their way” i was 5th in line and by 1 am there were 10. the 11th person really wanted one so i sold my spot in line for $280. Insane….

crazy…congrats on the profitable night. If you’re still interested in possibly getting a ps3, or selling your spot in line again, you could look for a best buy that is limiting line up to 24 hrs in advance.

Cause I called this morning to see how many units they got and they said they got 95 and the girl was like buttheres already over 100 people in line and i said when i called yseterdaty they said if you line up before 9 am tommorow you will get arrested she was like yea well thats changed the cops arnt doing anything.,…WTF I dont know where to get one now…

If anyone is out there who wants a PS3 and is not already in line, GO GET IN LINE! I showed up less than 30 minutes after the first person arrived at our Best Buy in North Dallas yesterday, and I was already the 10th person in line. Fortunately our store is getting 20-something units, so I should be good.
The first person arrived at 4:30pm last night, and there were 25 people there before I went to sleep. I’m sure there are going to be more when I head back there today (I have someone waiting in my spot).
The PS3s are going to be much more difficult to acquire compared to other systems. The Best Buy manager at the store where I’m camped said they will have “several hundred” Nintendo Wii’s to give out.
Good luck everyone! If you don’t show up today, I doubt you’ll get one on Friday.

I need advice. I live in texas and am camping at Best Buy for the Wii. Tomorrow im will talk to the managers of BB, Target, and Walmart to see who is getting the most systems. I am lining up at around 4 P.M. the day before. will that be good enough?
I just checked my bb. No line yet, as the manager said there wouldn’t. There were empty cars in the lot so parking close and jumping in line doesn’t look like it will be a problem for me early tomorrow morning.
As a bonus, I just drove by my wal-mart and they said they have about 15. They said I could start the line anytime. No line yet so I’m packing up my gear and heading out to be the first in about an hour. Hopefully things haven’t changed by then but I still have bb as a back up.

wal-mart said they’d hand out tickets tomorrow morning and then let the first 30 (even though there’s only 15 units) stay in layaway. We can stay back there tomorrow and tomorrow night with ticket number already in hand so that sounds like the best place for me right now.

I agree that sounds excessive but not everyone’s on a budget. Luckily there are plenty of people out there willing to spend the money because that’s what’s gonna drive technology forward.

The one target already has people another target said we can line up whenever and one isnt allowing people to line up til tommorow at 5pm but i see how much that held up with CC. So i am gonna go out at 7 am tommorow but if im not 1st or 2nd in line then im not gonna wait. Im reporting live from walmart in Knoxville, TN i am no. 6 in this line but nothing is guaranteed as of now.
i just got booted from wal-mart. The management is trying to keep a line from starting and even went as far as to say they’ll only have rainchecks when I just had an employee confirm they’d have at least 6, which is down from the 15 they told me earlier today. What the hell? Is management trying to keep them for themselves?
I called bb again. they said no line yet either. I’m gonna try to start one there as soon as they close at 10pm even though they say we can’t line up till 7am.
I feel like my chances are getting slimmer again. I’ll head out in about 5 hours for my last chance.

Well, I’m in chicago, looking foward to camping out at the SEARS in the loop, I talked to the manager, and thus far no one has talked to him about camping out, hopefully thats a good sign.
I’ll be scouting out the location all of friday up tosaterday afternoon, I plan on camping out early in the morning 4:30 perhaps, hopefully I can procure some alchohol to make the time pass (i.e pass out).
Wal-mart didn’t threaten to call the police or anything. They were being real assholes though and did everything but tell me I’m not gonna get one if I wait there and cause problems.
I hope it’s chaos for them considering they’re purposely telling me false info and not letting me help them set up an organized line. The head manager told me “I havn’t had time to think about it yet, guy”. I wanted to tell him what an idiot he is if that’s true but I felt I had wasted enough time at that point.
Well speaking about the geniuses at Walmart, they told me that they wouldn’t let people start lining up until 8pm tomorrow (Thursday), for a 12:01am launch (only 4 hours later). Does that seem like a bad idea to anyone else???
Oh, and even better, Meijer says that they won’t tell people where the line starts in their store until 12:00am (Friday), for a 12:01am launch. Awesome.

Im a hardcore gamer, but I have been lucky with buying systems. There arent that many hardcore gamers around here, so I havent had to camp-out. But…im looking forward to Wii so much that I might actually do it to be safe (I thought about PS3 and decided that there is no chance of me getting my hands on it this year).
I don’t know if you would be able to answer this, but…do you think there is really a need for me to camp-out for wii? I heard that there will be plenty of systems for each store. Either way, thank you for preparing me for the Wii launch!

good luck. you’ll probably get a bunch of credit cards. They might be suprised when not everyone in line’s a nerd. Many people are bringing protection. Police are likely nearby as well, not to mention store security cameras. Good plan though.

well thats wonderful. Im not getting a ps3 but a lot of stores are freaking out. I got a walmart paper today that said there should be a minimum of 10 per store but the store that my mom works at only has 6, 2 20g and 4 60g. Im waiting on the wii though, Im most likely going to go saturday at noonish to get in line for mine, at the store im going to, im not expecting many people to arrive early. for the 360 launch, the first person showed up at noon and the 360 had a lot more hype. I will get a PS3 no matter what i have do for it i would like to thank you all for standing in line for me but i will be taking yours.
Let’s all remember the steps in the guide:
Bring another bag to put your PS3 bag in for cloaking.
Ask the store management to make sure your trip in the parking lot is secure.
Add to that, in case Nutz is not…well…nuts: if someone bumps your car, try to flag them to follow you to the safest possible location to address the fender bender. This isn’t a homicide…it doesn’t need to be handled at the scene of the crime and there won’t be a forensics crew coming out to check for evidence. This can be especially important for those of you buying from Wal-Mart at 12:01am…it will be ridiculously dark and there will be much easier for someone to attempt Nutz’s hypothetical situations. Try to go somewhere well lit at the least and some place with a security camera (ATM/etc) or security/police presence at the best.
If you’re not already in line forget about getting either the Sony3 or Wii. Every BestBuy already has a line up and everyone there is staying to buy the Wii as well. No one will get robbed with so many people around. The time energy and not to mention money put into being the first is line is only the type of dedication a real Gamer has and the type of person who really deserves to lock themselves away from anything important for some time with their new a PS. Anyone thinking about making money off this garbage hardware better have a crappy paying job to make waiting in line for 48 hours worth it. Get Laid!

Hey im still fourth in line at my walmart and the manegers have been getting mad at us earlier. Some of us tried to lay down and get some sleep on the benches and they would walk by and kick the benches and tell us if we fall asleep we have to leave and they wont let us plug anything into the outlets on the walls. At around 4:00 they took everyone in line and told us we couldnt wait in layaway any more so we have to wait outside now. There are about 17 people waiting now and they said they are only getting 10 so some are just taking a chance saying that they heard that walmarts are getting 20. Anyways since we have been outside they dont care if we sleep but im just glad i got in line on the 14th at 7:00pm cause the line filled up fast! im garenteed a system now even if they dont get enough in i still get a rain check for when they do but they said they are pretty confedent on getting at least 4 so i should be good.
P.S. I am at the walmart in Apopka Fl. (Orlando basicaly) if anyone wants to know and there are no one in line for the wii yet.

The line just started here in MOntreal, 4 ppl already in line at walmart. I was scouting out the region like devron said to. I plan on getting in line at 6pm, hopefully there will still be some space.
Well i’ve been in line now for over 20hrs and i have about 13more to go. walmart just got their shipment in and they’ve got 8 60gigs and 4 20gigs.. i’m no. 6 in line so i will be getting a 60Gig.. this has been tough but worth it. i hope it goes well for everyone else.
As of 5 min ago; In State College, PA, Best Buy will have 15 PS3s and there are 35 people in line and its is pouring outside. A nearby Walmart has 12 people in line but they have only 6 PS3s. I got this info from employees and talking to the dedicated gamers(or Ebayers) in line. Most of the people plan on selling their units on Ebay. I offered $1000 for a 60GB PS3 if they get one and they all turned me down as they expect to get $2000 for the system on Ebay.
My buddy and I had a plan to get ours, there are two wal-marts here, a circuit city, and a target, we live in a town of about 60,000 so not that big. As of 8 AM YESTERDAY (wednesday) there were already 6 people at each wal-mart and 5 people at circuit city (which is how many ps3’s each store is getting) and there all being paid by one guy to buy them all.
The only store without people there is Target, we’ve even scouted other towns wal-marts and there’s 12 people in the next town over already waiting but that store is only getting 3 units. Craziness
oh yeah our plan was to go today at noon, since we heard the lines at the wal-marts started at 8 the night before last year.
Just got off the phone with my buddy and three other wal-marts from surrounding towns are already camped out with more people than ps3’s the wal-marts are getting.

Looks to me that they are about 1/2 right on the ones in my area, so i don’t know.
I honestly think the people ebaying it are in for a surprise, not to say they won’t make a profit, but that they won’t make as big of a profit as they thought once the release happens… if ebay gets flooded w/ ps3s.. it just adds to the supply, the demand’s still there, but it’ll inevitably drive the premium pricing down that it’s been going for prior to launch.. just a hunch though..my prediction – you’ll start seeing an ave. price of $1100 within a week, not $2000+, still not a bad take… but not enough for me to stand for 48 hrs in the cold, wind & rain…
oh yeah.. i stopped by my local target yesterday w/ 7 out of 8 people in line… all who were college students who said while they wanted to keep the PS3, they would rather sell it on ebay… but that’s just a sample size of 8.. i’d be curious to see how many people standing in line plan to sell on ebay..

This is the third time im posting because no noe has really responded. In a tecent article iv’e read, it stated that each large bestbuy will have around 75-85 nintendo wii’s. Now ast this number, (if true) do you really think it is neccesary to camp out. Do u think i will gwet one if i just show up to bestbuy early in the morning?
You might be able to get one early in the morning if you show up like 4 hours prior to openning… But I’m gonna make sure I get one by camping out for it. I’d suggest getting in line at closing time the night before at the latest.
Awesome, In response to your question about Wii. You may not get one without waiting overnite for it. For the Xbox 360 where BB had about 60 units, these people waited for 12 hours or more. However, the Wii, will be readily available after launch.
Sony PS3 claimed 400K units for USA, delivering only 200K units, and promises(unlikely) 600K more units by the end of the year.
The Wii promises to ship 4 million units by the end of the year, and have delivered the 600K units to stores as promised. So unless you have to have it on launch day, I would think the Wii would recieve several shipments to stores before christmas.

I live on the Northwest Oregon coast, (near Tillamook, Seaside, ect.). Fred Meyer’s here is having a midnight launch, from 12:01am – 1:00am, as their sign states. Also, there is NOBODY in line for the PS3, or even the Wii for that matter. I went there for lunch today however, and did see some teens (I’m in my early 20’s) walking around..more thank likly “staking” the place out during their lunch break (or just skipping school).
So if anyone from the Portland are wants a PS3 BADLY, then drive yourself out here to Tillamook. Look up the Fred Meyer address on the internet and map quest it. There is NO ONE in line, and if you leave here soon you are guaranteed to get one. I believe Fred Meyer is also selling the PS3 at midnight (tonight), so in case the lines start forming you may want to pack some things quickly and get over here. I’m only sharing this information to help. I for one am not purchasing a PS3, but will be getting a Wii on saturday night (midnight).

Target says no camping, and I didn’t see anyone outside walmart camping.

Nah, I’m not giving up Dave. In fact, due to a screw up by BB I bought a Nunchuk and Twilight Princess Yesterday! I was gonna get the Controller today, but they had received a memo by this morning saying to not sell anything until Sunday. ^_^ I have so many friends ticked at me right now.
I’m gonna head to the BB by me on Saturday morning.
Also, The PS3 people screwed themselves over cause about 100 people made a rush to make a line and hopefully get within the first 26 places for the system, and ended up with a fight breaking out. The police broke it up and aren’t letting anyone line up until tomorrow when the store opens! Everyone who was in line is now at a different location and waiting for that BB to open tomorrow!
Also, the 2nd location I mentioned has the first person in line waiting in an RV! I would not let him back in line after doing that. He went to bed yesterday at 10pm and at 12:00n he was still in the RV and had not made an appearance to the line. Talk about BS. You should camp in the cold with everyone else, am I right?
I went to Walmart at 5 this morning, and go over to the layaway section where they said there would be a dash for the chairs. A sign was posted that lines would start at 6 outside the store. WTF?! So I waited outside the store, and by 6 AM there’s over 50 people out there. There was no real line, just a crowd of people, since Walmart said they would kick out the people who waited there before 6. At 6, a guy came out and asked who the first people there were, and some people said they were, so they got the 6 rainchecks that they had, and everyone leaved. I hate Walmart! They give the ONLY PS3s that they have to the people who broke the 6 AM rule in the first place! And only a couple of them were actually waiting there longer than everybody else, the rest just lied. There was a kid standing in line at midnight the night before and he walked away with nothing. Screw you, Walmart!

The BB that had the police run everyone off last night now has a line for it that is going strong.
I thought this would be wicked fun to wait and meet fellow geeks. but this thing scared me, about the possible stealing. but i guess its better that i know its a possibility, then to go unprepared.

The circuit city that I work at is getting 8, and all 8 say they are going to ebay it. Way to go Sony, the only reason anyone wants your system is the resell value. 😛

well…… so far out of supposed 200,000 Playstation 3’s 3389 of them are on ebay. and every time i refresh the search another 30 more pop up lmao…. i will die laughing if these dont sellf or half of what people expect… funny the ones going for the most are the preorder auctions that are ending just now hahaha
Kevin Huxford I was 4th in line but taking shifts with my brother. I was at my house while he was in line when i wrote that. But i did get a 60 gb ps3 and i have been playing resistence for a little over an hour now. It is a great game! Some guy offered me $800 for my place in line today but i said no and i am glad i did. And another good thing is that unlike my xbox 360 i got on launch, my ps3 is not defective!!!!

I read that you cannot sell your PS3 on ebay unless you have a feedback of 50! Is this true? Does anyone know a person who could automatically give you a 50 feedback for a price?
It’s not feedback of 50. It’s feedback of 98% or higher with a history of 50 or more items sold. Wonder how many people stood in line without knowing that. but right now there’s about 10,500 on there and the ones ending now are goin for $2000-$2500. will that persist…?

wow. I went and waited in line…i ended up being number 15. There were 14 units…-_-. Right behind the last person to get one….wonderful. AND not only that. All the people in front of me, literially, are selling theres online. Not one of them is keeping it to play. jeeze
I did get guitar hero II though, to keep me occupied while i wait for a ps3 ^_^

I just found out (like 5min. ago), that the Fred Meyer here in Tillamook, OR is getting 75 Nintendo Wii systems!! If you are worried about not being able to get a Wii, come out here to the coast! I can almost guarantee you will get one with such a large amount, and the town being so small. My self, brother, and a friend are going to be there at 5pm (pst) to see if anyone is lining up. See you all there!

i drove around 10pm on wed night to 8 walmarts and 7 were already full. There is one left close to my house but wont allow people to camp till 7am. We waited in the car until 6am and people start a crowd next to the line, i was like wtf! These people got kicked out twice and finally the manager gave up and let them in. I was lucky for being number 12 and my friend was 13. This lucky ex-marine guy came at 7:15am and asked if he was too late, lucky guy because walmart is giving out 12 consoles and 2 vouchers haha. I better get something out of this for being cold outside for 25 hours, any suggestion about the price for 20gb?
There is no line at my local Best Buy or my local Target. I’m thinking I might not need to camp at all for the Wii.
Well, i didnt get one of the 60’s or the 20’s at my Wal-Mart. But i did get a rain check for the next 8 60’s that come out in the next 3 weeks or so. What surprised me was that when i went into my Wal-Mart there where already 7 prople in it waiting. #7 came in at 2am, an hour before i got in and the first 6 people where in there at 6pm the night before. But what realy tears it for me is is that the first 3 units (2-60’s and 1-20) where all going up for auction on Ebay. They all joined together to sell theres instead of bein a traditional gamer and keeping it and playing it. It makes me mad that people would rather earn a buck by selling it than being a TRUE gammer and kepping it and enjoying it. It never used to be like this before. It reminded me of an episode of Survivor, it came down to the last hour and people where making deals and planning and estimating their profit, makes me sick!!
Other than that, i had a great time with the camp out. Made some good friends, although i dont know their names. Watched alot of my movies and played alot of Jenga. I had a blast and would do it again if i was interested in the Wii.
Cant wait to get my 60 gig in a couple of weeks and i hope everyone had fun with their camping. Enjoy your PS3’s everyone!!!!

So im really kind of mad now. I still plan on sitting in line for half a day for a Wii but instead of letting us stay in layaway for that time, the douche bag manager (im usually not this brutal but my mom works for him) is making us wait freaking outside. So im thinking about instead of noon, i might go about 2 or 3ish depending on when the line starts. I think i have a pretty good chance considering the area and they have 29 wiis. Now the sucky part is that im going to wait in line but since im only 16 my mom is buying it as a christmas present that up until 2 days ago i thought i was getting early. But NO, shes holding on to it until the big 12/25. Well all i can say is yes i am extremely mad about that little detail but theres something comforting in the fact that i will definately have 1. Oh yeah, the area that im going to, i dont expect much of a line considering that there wasnt much of a line for the ps3s and more people want them in the area. I guess well see.

hahahahaha… there’s about 20 auctions ending per minute now and they’re barely averaging $1000… there are ps3s starting at $1200 that are ending without a single bid cuz there’s a hundred others going for less… i’m guessing $800 by the end of the night.
Thank you God for letting me hear about the crazy lines on Wednesday so I cancelled my plans to get one of these to make some money…

Pk were u campin at Best Buy in Warwick. I got there at 1:45 on the 18th and was 13th in line for a Wii (which is awesome). The guy in first got a Wii poster and Wii clock plus hat. We kept goin in to best buy to play Guitar Hero 2. It got really cold but we toughed it out. However there were a whole bunch of jerks drivin buy and shoutin insults or sayin the Ps3 or 360 was better. The Bathroom sitch was good until 3 am when the store was closed and i had to hitch a ride to a gas station. 6 hours later we had our tickets and were ready to get our Wii. People from Target kept drivin buy snubbing us by showing us their Wiis (Target opened an hour earlier than Best Buy) All in all it was awesome tho. After some sleep i managed to put together my Wii. It rocks Wii sports is very fun (my dad is addicted) and Zelda rocks. This will not be my last post as i plan to continue talk about the Wii or Ps3. hanks a lot Devron for your awesome guide.
By the way i haven’t got the classic controller yet because Best Buy sold out. I’ll get one next week in the next shipment.
HELLO GET A PLAYSTATION 3 FOR 500USD AND NINTENDO WII FOR 150USD
I had gone to a walmart near me to get my WII and found out they had only 20 about 1 hour after i got there and i was 30th in line. Then i went to Toys R Us, i got there at around 10pm and was 176 in line but i got a wii cause they had 200, it still took like 4hours after they gave out the tickets tough because of all the people that were infront of me and the pre order people and stuff. While i was in line i called my dad to come so he could buy another one and were planning to sell the other one on ebay
Semak first of all Wii costs 267 dollars plus tax. Second of all the Ps3 is impossible to get at this time even if you get it for 500 dollars(the worse 20 gig version). Also those have glitches anyway. My Wii on the other hand does not have any problems and Zelda is sooooooooooooo worth it let me tell you. Also,the 360 has more games readily available rather than a Ps3. I will get a Ps3 when the price drops.
Heres my story in case u guys wanna here. I got up at about 7 today (launch day) hoping to pop into line at walmart and get a wii. Didnt wrk out tht way. Everyone had vouchers and only people with them got wiis. So i headed to bestbuy to hopefuklly do the same thnig. Unfortunately, they had vouchers too. So, i had to wait in the “no voucher” line. Then, after only about ten minutes of waiting, a man coomes out of the store, and asks if anyone wants his voucher. I almost broke his hand reaching for tht puppy! (not really but you get the point)After all, i got the wii on launch without campin out.
So HAH to all you non believers! IT’s Possible! We’ll just thought id share my story!
i camped out at the local mall’s best buy, getting there at 5pm on saturday. i can’t afford a wii and didn’t intend to buy one, but i immediately started keeping a list of who came and when, removing the names of people who left for more than two hours. there were 102 units and 130 campers. everyone trusted my list because they’d seen me keep it and maintain it, but the best buy managers weren’t going to honor it because they hadn’t made it themselves. however, two employees in the line took it and talked the managers into honoring it- the main support being that i had nothing to gain, since i wasn’t buying one. i stood outside the store for awhile afterward, and almost everyone that walked out with a wii thanked me for making the list and keeping the line hoppers from taking one of the coveted consoles home.
let this be a lesson to ye!
I’m from Baltimore Maryland but I go to college on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, which is where I camped out to get my Wii because I thought it’d be easier than in a metropolitan area. I got to Target around 5am on Sunday morning, three hours before the store opened and was number 23 in line. The store got 33 units in, and I bet it would have been harder to get one in Baltimore because there’s more people….
God i’m awesome being right lol j/k…who called on this post 1st that the price couldn’t sustain itself on ebay… then again.. i was an econ major.. =oP…glad i didn’t bother to camp out on wed. in the freezing rain. the smart ebayers would do wise to hold on to their ps3’s for like 2 weeks.. when christmas shopping is heavier…
I camped out at my local best buy starting at 2pm b/c the girl there told my mom at 1pm a line had started. When me and my friend got there, there were only 2 people in line!! So we waited in my car until about 6pm then got in line, numbers 4 and 5 and they were getting 45 units. At 8am the manager came out and handed out tickets, but told us that there was bad news, that one of the trucks didn’t show up last night and there was only 30 units!! Also, it had half there shipment of Zelda games!! There were only 6 copies of Zelda and i was lucky enough to get one!!

By the way, do u need the sd memory card for the wii to store all ur memory? So far i haven’t but will i? Also do u think it is worth it to get controller skins? I know without sayin tho that im gettin a Zelda wall skin. Red Steel i will get at christmas along with Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Can’t wait.

I went to a local Game Crazy in Redmond WA at around 9A.M. Only one guy was camping out and about four other people were waiting outside. Even though the place was packed at midnight, but there were plenty of wiis to go around. I am strongly regretting my desision of not getting one, because now I have to be a mooch to all my friends that did get one, but there were plenty of geeks to talk to and the store was right next to a QFC. The overall experience was worth the 16-18 hour wait, but it would have been so much more gratifying if I had bought a wii…*bangs head on coffee table*

Hey Devron, just wanted to say thank you for writing this up. Well done, provided useful information. I didn’t purchase a PS3 (not planning to), but I did get in line and purchase a Wii. I live in a small coastal community, so I did not have to start waiting in line until the 18th at around 5:30pm PST. My brother and I waited in line, and then a couple hours later two of my brother’s co-workers showed up. All together the local Fred Meyer (also known as Kroger) received 75 Wii’s. My bro and I were # 5 and 6 in line, and my bro’s co-workers were #15 and 16 in line. The store actually didn’t even sell out of Wii’s until the next morning, but ever since then the same day the shipment of Wii’s come in, they go out in less than an hour. A few weeks ago they had another 30 and they all sold in about 45min. according to the store manager.
Any way, just wanted to share a little of my “waiting in line” story. All in all it went very well, and had a good time.

What up all! I have a PS3 60GB game console that I got from the Nov 17th launch. I was #2 in line at a Dallas, Texas Wal-Mart. It was for my son who instead wants the Wii. I am trying to recover my investment in the PS3. It has never been opened. I also have an extra controller and Resistance Fall of Man game.

there are no more wii systems left in any store…my family and i have tried everything like target, sears, maybe toys r us, ummmm, lets see, wal-mart, circuit city, best buy, and a whole bunch of other stores but what do they say?…”Oh I’m sorry there are no more left”…or something like…”try again next week”…or even something like…”we don’t sell any wii systems”…i mean this is silly. we went to fred meyer, one day the were gonna have about 5 of them 50% off the next week, we went and they were already gone. now im just like whatever..well just gonna have to wait and see what happens next, i guess…18r
